The Northern Centre for Cancer Care (NCCC) is looking to appoint a Radiotherapy Service Manager and Professional Lead Therapeutic Radiographer based in Newcastle.

We are looking for a well-motivated, experienced person to lead the delivery of radiotherapy services within our Cancer Centres in Newcastle and Carlisle (Northern Centre for Cancer Care North Cumbria).

This management position within NCCC/NCCCNC involves the full range of management accountabilities including day-to-day operational management of the radiotherapy department in both Newcastle and North Cumbria.

This post is responsible for teams across both departments incorporating approximately 100 members of staff, predominantly radiographers.

We have 9 Varian TrueBeams, 2 Tomotherapy units, 3 CT Scanners, 1 SXT unit and 1 HDR brachytherapy unit across our two sites, delivering treatment to approximately 6000 new patients per year employing a wide range of therapies including multi-met SRS, lungs SABR, HDR gynae brachytherapy, TBI/TSEI, gated lung therapy and cardiac SABR.

This is an exciting role for a motivated individual keen to drive improvement and join a very supportive and collaborative team.

The post holder takes day-to-day responsibility for delivery of the radiotherapy department’s key performance indicators as laid out in the NHS England’s service specification. This includes achieving the national cancer waiting time targets including the 62 and 31-day waits.

NCCC provides a highly specialized regional radiotherapy service to a population of circa 3.3million across the North East and North Cumbria with radiotherapy service provision for circa 2.0million.

This senior management position within NCCC/NCCC-NC involves the full range of management accountabilities for the delivery of radiotherapy services, including day-to-day operational management of the departments in both Newcastle and North Cumbria. A key objective for the post holder is to ensure equity of service delivery across the geographically spread treatment locations. What does a live-in carer do?

• Previous experience in a customer service role, ideally working to key targets to deliver customer satisfaction and sales objectives
• You will have good organisation and administrative skills, knowledge of dealer management systems would be an advantage but is not essential.
• Motor trade, automotive or car dealership experience is preferred but not essential as full training will be provided.

Clinical: The post holder will take part in a full shift rota, along with other trainees, which provides 24 hour care for patients including weekends and night shifts. This includes; Immediate responsibility for care of up to 22 critical care patients Responsible for the admission and discharge of patients Liaising with other departments and specialties as appropriate Maintaining inpatient records Ordering routine and emergency investigations, and receiving and reviewing their results Managing routine and unexpected problems on the critical care unit as they arise Reviewing and admitting new admissions and referrals from both the emergency department and wards Transfer of patient to radiology etc. as appropriate Compliance with Trust and departmental protocols and guidelines As the post holder will be responsible for the assessment and management of critically ill patients with indirect supervision, significant prior experience in intensive care medicine is essential including advanced airway skills and excellent written and spoken English. This post will include care of patients with suspected and conformed coronavirus. Administrative: Candidates must possess full GMC registration with a license to practise at time of application Research: There are no specific research duties in this post, however there may be opportunities to take part in ongoing clinical trials. Teaching: The department has a strong teaching commitment to junior doctors. There is both formal and informal training as well as educational supervision and guidance for the postholders provided in each attachment. Formal study-leave to attend relevant regional and national courses, (allocation the same as regional trainees) with reimbursement of expenses (according to Trust policy and up to the annual leave limit) also provided. A number of educational sessions are provided, there is also access to the departmental, Trust and regional teaching and courses, such as preparation for FRCA and FFICM examinations. Critical Care units run weekly formal teaching as well as journal clubs, exam practise, self-directed learning and practical procedure teaching. The opportunity exists for the post holder to attend educational sessions within other departments of the hospital.

Administrative: Candidates must possess full GMC registration with a license to practise at time of application Satisfactory completion of at least 2 years prior postgraduate training in ICM/anaesthesia/general medicine, to include at least 3 months ICM is essential. Research: We have several national and international trials that we run and recruit to with opportunities for associate PI roles, involvement with the journal club and development of the role as interested Medical Education: The departments have a strong teaching commitment to junior doctors and medical students We have a regular weekly teaching program and access to simulation and are developing an in-situ simulation program. The post holder will work closely with our education leads to develop the department Clinical Interest Areas: Anaesthesia, maternal medicine, burns, major surgery, transplant, neuro and trauma critical care, recovery after critical illness. The role will primarily be based in critical care with the option to develop specialist interest skills and be supervised by specialists in the above areas to develop clinical and non-clinical skills managing these patient groups. Opportunities for quality improvement projects and dedicated time in the subspecialty area. Ultrasound (FUSIC mentors): Critical care has a number of FUSIC mentors allowing trainees to undertake formal echo/chest/vascular ultrasound training.
