The post holder shall be responsible for child protection services, family wellbeing and Hawthorn Family Learning Centre. The post will enable you to grow as a leader and manager in a Council which has children and families firmly at its heart. We will provide opportunities for ongoing continuous professional development to ensure you can be as effective as possible in improving the lives of children and families in Midlothian for the better.

KNOWLEDGE:
Essential:
- A professional qualification in Social Work
- Educated to degree level
- Post Graduate Certificate in Child Welfare and Protection
- A post graduate qualification (or working towards) in Leadership and Management
- An in-depth working knowledge of children’s service and familiarity with a range of children’s services across the public and voluntary sector
- Significant knowledge, skills and experience of work in services for children, young people and their families,
- Demonstrate significant knowledge, skills and understanding of relevant legislation, policy and procedures including a well-developed understanding of the GIRFEC principles
- Significant experience of multi-agency working at operational management level, demonstrating initiative and the ability to communicate effectively with a range of partners and stakeholders
- Experience of service planning, delivery and approaches to measuring service impact
- Excellent knowledge of management processes associated with leading teams preferably a multi-disciplinary team with a range of professional groups
- Technology-literate in managing information and data
- Demonstrate commitment to continuing personal and professional development.
- An understanding of budget management.
- A current driver’s licence and own transport
