Major Duties:

• Plans and direct programs at medical centers and/or satellite outpatient clinics and have full supervisory responsibility.
• Assigns and evaluating the work of subordinate staff; resolving complex problems to ensure patient services are met
• Evaluates new products, equipment, and systems in order to make recommendations for improved operations; identifying educational or training needs; making final decisions on selections; evaluating performance, and taking disciplinary action when necessary.

• Works collaboratively in the Medical Service and performs all related duties; customer service and other duties assigned for the proper and timely treatment of patients and assure appointment schedules are maintained by MSA staff for one or more outpatient clinics. S/He must assist with clinic contingency plans by adjusting appointment times, locations, or dates as well as shift patients to other healthcare providers as conflict with staffing and/or coverage occurs.
• Assures Medical Support Assistant staff explains the agency's mandate to collect insurance information to veterans, their families, and other eligible patients.
• Contributes to the revenue collection process by identifying patients with third party insurance.
• Must screen/receive phone calls in a courteous and timely manner, determine the nature of requests and provide the information desired using privacy rules and established clinic processes.
• Must be able to train staff on the requirements of VHA Scheduling Directives and complete accurate scheduling responsibilities
• May be asked to participate in Medical Service huddles and weekly team meetings where patient care planning and management occur. Will rotate this to assure all Medical Support Assistant staff is in attendance and understands the process for their assigned teamlet(s).

• YOU WILL/MAY:
• Ensure that regulated establishments produce a safe product by executing appropriate inspection methods, determining non-compliance with regulatory requirements, documenting noncompliance and initiating enforcement actions, where warranted.
• Verify that meat and poultry slaughter and/or processing establishment's Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Plans meet regulatory requirements.
• Execute Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) Plans effectively to prevent unsanitary conditions and adulteration of product.
• Review records, observe plant operations and conduct hands-on verification to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and prepare detailed documentation (Non-Compliance Records) of non-compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Determine when regulatory control action is necessary. You will assess whether the plant's corrective or preventative actions are acceptable and effective, if there are trends in noncompliance, or if an enforcement action is warranted.
• Conduct regulatory oversight activities inside plants in matters relating to other consumer protections (e.g., economic adulteration and misbranding).
• Have contact with plant managers, owners and others to explain legal and regulatory requirements, discuss operation of the plant's SSOP, HACCP plan and other food safety programs.
• Communicate and defend determinations on non-compliance issues and discuss plans for addressing non-compliance.

• Authorize entry of all meat or poultry products considered to comply with Federal regulations or refuse entry of any products which violate any of the requirements for admission into this country.
• Coordinate with other Federal agencies (e.g., the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on such matters as animal health restrictions and refused entry lots.

As a Biological Science Technician your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assists in planning wildlife censuses and surveys such as establishing schedules and procedures to accomplish surveys. Independently carries out wildlife studies by following research methods and established procedures for accomplishing
  and reporting the work. Monitors and implement activities related to conservation, management, and/or control of wildlife. Monitors and assists in control of wildlife, plant disease outbreaks, pest plant control, mowing/seeding activities and vegetation removal. Captures, applies visual and radio tags, and gathers physiological and spatial data on wildlife.
• Assists in planning plants surveys and recommends plant management practices.
  Assists in planning habitat management activities designed to monitor, control, and eradicate non-native or invasive plant species and/or limit plant disease outbreaks. Independently carries out plant studies by following research methods and

• Collects, assesses, and organizes biological and physical environment data from field investigations and reports findings to determine actual and potential impact on fish, wildlife or plant resources from development projects, restoration projects or habitat improvement projects.
• Provides basic information on fish and wildlife resources and the United States Fish and Wildlife Service to groups and individuals.

• The incumbent participates in multifaceted plant studies, including carrying out a variety of research and survey methods, analyzing established data, and monitoring environmental elements such as temperature, humidity, etc., and how it impacts plant health. Uses field equipment including cameras, GPS equipment, binoculars, rangefinders and computers in order to capture survey data or for other records. Conducts and/or monitors grazing activities, water control structures, and/or management monitoring studies. Identifies native and exotic flora and fauna.
• Survey's location for invasive species populations. Works with the biologists to outline a plan to minimize or remove invasive species. Uses field equipment including cameras, GPS equipment, binoculars, rangefinders and computers in order to capture survey data or for other records. Assists with invasive species removal projects, recording and submitting accomplishment data on the process of technical assistance and habitat restoration activities.
