The Trust is seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to work as part of the inpatient team on Harrington ward, at the Broadoak Unit in Liverpool. The post is one of three inpatient Consultants at Broadoak Unit. Harrington ward is a female general adult ward, with 17 patients.

Work is underway on a state of the art, purpose-built hospital in South Liverpool, which will replace Broadoak unit once completed. The post holder will move to the new unit once complete.

Inpatient care for service users is provided by Consultants working within the Acute Care teams at Broadoak Unit, Clock View Hospital, Windsor House, all based in Liverpool, and Hartley Hospital based in Southport. The number of general adult beds across the Trust has temporarily reduced as a result of Covid-19, in order to adhere to social distancing guidance.

Broadoak Unit is an adult mental health facility based on Broadgreen Hospital Site, Liverpool. There are 3 acute adult wards namely: Brunswick (mixed ward), Albert (male), and Harrington. All wards across the Trust take admissions, as well as patient transfers.

The post holder would be responsible for up to 19 patients on Harrington ward. Harrington ward is a mixed ward with 19 beds pre-Covid. This has been reduced to 17 as a result of Covid. On average there are approximately 4 admissions per week to Harrington ward with around 4 discharges. About 25-50 per cent of the admitted patients are detained at any given time and there is on average one Mental Health Review Tribunal hearing each week. Brunswick ward also has a seclusion room which is used by all of the wards.

Main purpose of the role

To work with teachers as part of a professional team to support teaching and learning for SEN pupils. This role is part of RSAP. This service supports people who have experienced homelessness and are now living in temporary accommodation for up to 3 years.

You will be located in Powerhouse, Liverpool but spend time in the community visiting customers in their own properties, providing housing-related support to help them move on to more permanent accommodation.

You will provide support to our customers in a variety of ways. For example, connecting them with employability coaches and other support agencies, helping them manage their money, signing up for benefits or to move on to a more permanent home.

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.

Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.
We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Successful candidates will have to deliver correct care advice and guidance to callers’ dependent upon the reason for the call. Full training will be given to the successful candidates and an excellent career structure is available for future career progression. A full range of shifts will need to be covered, including bank holidays, public holidays, weekends and may include working nights. If your shift falls on a bank holiday, it will form part of your working hours. This includes the Easter and the festive period. This opportunity consists of a 12 month apprenticeship programmewith placements across the Secure Care Division whilst undertaking an Intermediate Apprenticeship Health and Social Care Framework at level 2 - attending Hugh Baird College weekly for the duration of the course.

The division is responsible for specialised secure mental health and learning disability services, in low, medium and high secure settings for service users with a primary classification of mental illness, personality disorders, learning disabilities and autism.

Only candidates who do nothold a CQF in Health and Social Care at Level 2 or full apprenticeship in health and social care at Level 2 can be considered.

Since 01/11/2021 a Recruitment & Retention premia has been introduced to attract and retain staff working within the Secure Care Division in High, Medium and Low Secure Services and further support our “Grow Our Own Strategy”. For unqualified roles this will be a premia of £600 - £4034* dependant on allocations.

*Allocations will be determined by the service, R&R will reflect the premia associated with each specific clinical placement for the duration of that rotation.

The Healthcare Apprentice position in the Secure Care Division is an exciting learning opportunity for the apprentice to gain valuable experience working in a specialist service whilst also undertaking an Intermediate Apprenticeship Framework at level 2. The apprenticeship will be undertaken over 12 months and will include exposure to both clinical and educational experiences.

Within this role individuals will be required to carry out assigned duties, involving direct care and observation of Service Users under the guidance and supervision of a qualified nurse or other team member where delegated.

Successful candidates will be required to participate in the shift system in operation within the ward/team/department.

Successful applicants must attend the education sessions provided to support the attainment of Intermediate Apprenticeship Framework at level 2.

Following satisfactory engagement with the course requirements, a band 3 Nursing Assistant post may be offered upon completion.

Job Summary
Under the supervision of a registered nurse assisting the Ward / Department team in providing the highest possible standard of care for patients and their families/carer.

The post holder will undertake a range of tasks and duties as delegated by a
registered nurse.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Participates in all aspects of patient care with particular attention to personalhygiene and grooming.
• Provision of patients toileting needs, ensuring privacy and dignity is maintained.
• Support of patients in managing incontinence and promotion of continence.
• The recording of a patient’s fluid intake and output using fluid balance charts.
• Preparation and serving of patient’s meals, drinks and snacks. Assisting / feeding patients as necessary.
• The recording of patient’s dietary intake when indicated in the patient’s plan of care.
• Enable patients to maintain/improve their mobility by use of exercise and mobility appliances.
• Assist in the prevention of pressure sore development as directed by the Registered nurse in conjunction with the patient’s plan of care
• Carry out any movement and handling within the safe practice guidelines from your mandatory training and in relation to the patient’s manual handling plan.
• Obtaining specimens from patients for ward or laboratory testing.
• Removal of cannulae, catheters and nasogastric tubes
 Undertake the dressing of non-complex wounds (in accordance with identified competencies and in conjunction with the plan of care)
• Naso-gastric/PEG feeding once the tube has been passed and checked by a registered professional
• Prepare and maintain environments for clinical treatments and investigations
• Prepare patients for treatments, investigations or procedures including offering support, answering questions appropriate to own knowledge/experience and assisting in recovery
• Collection of Blood products from laboratory as requested
• Chaperoning and escorting patients to clinical departments within the hospital and to other hospitals for investigations.
• Assist Registered Nurse in performing last offices.
• General and clinical observations of patients, reporting anything untoward to Registered Nursing Staff, to include:
• Recording of blood pressure, pulse, temperature and respiration

• Oxygen saturation monitoring

• Safe disposal of clinical waste and sharps as per Trust policy
• Be familiar with Trust policy and procedure for reporting clinical incidents, reporting of incidents if they occur.
• Attend to the needs of visitors and patients particularly those who may be distressed or bereaved.
• Care for patients property, including valuables, in accordance with Trust policy.
