Harborne Academy are looking to recruit a teacher of design technology, with a strong background in resistant materials (wood/metal/ plastics). Experience and the ability to teach 3D art is also desirable.

The right candidate will be passionate about helping our students to learn to design and make across a wide range of materials, processes, and scales. We invite applications from teachers who love working collaboratively with children and have creative design, making and communication skills across a range of materials and outcomes.

The position would suit applicants with a background in resistant materials, sculpture, jewellery, 3D art. Above all else, we are seeking a candidate with the enthusiasm and the drive to help our students gain confidence in the skills needed to progress their own amazing ideas.

The department places a major focus on practical, hands-on workshop learning, with students being exposed to a wide range of techniques and processes (welding, forging, raising, laminating, carving, casting and resin work). Students produce ambitious, sophisticated, and highly creative outcomes, which further highlights that art, design, and creative thinking are valued at the core of what we do.
