About the Role
Teaching Personnel is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a fantastic school in Torquay that specialises in supporting students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and challenging behaviour. The school's primary goal is to reintegrate students back into mainstream education through personalised support and care.
This full-time role is term-time only, offering a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in young people's lives. You will be working closely with teachers and other support staff to create a safe, supportive, and structured learning environment, helping students develop the skills they need for success both inside and outside the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with SEMH and behavioural needs
- Implement tailored learning and behaviour plans under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO
- Build positive relationships with students to promote emotional well-being and social development
- Assist in the planning and delivery of engaging lessons and activities
- Support the reintegration process of students into mainstream education
- Promote and model positive behaviour strategies to de-escalate challenging situations
Requirements:
- Experience working with children with SEMH and behavioural needs (in a school or similar setting)
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students
- A genuine passion for helping students overcome barriers to learning
- Understanding of safeguarding procedures and commitment to student welfare
Desirable:
- Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent experience
- Team Teach or similar de-escalation training (or a willingness to undertake training)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
