Granton Primary is a non-denominational school serving an area in North Edinburgh. It is one of four schools that feed Broughton High school.

We have a committed, nurturing staff team consisting with the senior leadership team consisting of a Head Teacher, 2 Depute Head Teachers, 1 Principal Teacher, 1 Development Officer, 1 Business Manager.

We have a supportive Parent council and have developed good links with the community.

The successful candidate will have experience of and be responsible for the following:

• Support the leadership and management of the Early Years, which includes the Nursery and P1/P2 teams, so they can develop, thrive, and deliver outstanding care to all children in the setting
• Have a sound knowledge of early years pedagogy and child development
• Role model and mentor the early years team to ensure the highest quality early childhood practice and experience for all children, including children with special education needs and/or disabilities
• Have an extensive knowledge and experience in GIRFEC and ASL policy and practice
• Have experience and knowledge of working with pupils and families with EAL
• Be an excellent communicator and able to build relationships and work in partnership with families and external agencies on the progress and outcomes of the children
• Lead Equality and Rights Respecting work across the school
• Develop work in pupil voice and pupil leadership groups across the school
• Establish creative, responsive, and effective approaches to teaching and learning and ensure a culture and ethos of challenge and support where all pupils can have a voice, achieve success, and become highly engaged in their own learning
• Work within the SLT to facilitate improvements in attainment, attendance, and equity
• Lead whole school events, staff development and school assemblies
• Further develop parent partnerships

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. The SEND Team Manager will lead and manage a team responsible for overseeing and coordinating special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) provision within a local authority or educational institution.

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibility for completing EHC Needs Assessments and overseeing Annual Reviews for the existing 2000 EHC Plans for children and young people.
Lead and managing a team responsible for coordinating and overseeing SEND provision.
Allocate resources and ensure effective utilisation to meet the needs of students with SEND.
Oversee the assessment and identification process for students' special educational needs and disabilities.
Coordinate the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students.
Collaborate with schools, teachers, and external agencies to provide appropriate support and services.
Ensure compliance with legal requirements and policies related to SEND provision.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and support strategies.
Provide guidance and support to team members, promoting professional development.
Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among stakeholders.
Represent the team and liaise with senior management, local authorities, and governing bodies.
Keep abreast of changes in legislation, policies, and best practices in SEND provision.



Qualifications:

Educated to post graduate level.



Skills & Experience:

Minimum of 12 months recent experience in a similar role, or context and ideally within a public sector organisation.
Experience of working with young people with a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
Must be familiar with SEND and EHCP processes and systems.
Management experience to enable them to provide management and oversight of a team of case officers who work in partnership with stakeholders and families to achieve positive casework outcomes for children and young people.
Strong knowledge of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Familiarity with relevant legislation and policies related to SEND provision.
Analytical and problem-solving abilities to address challenges in SEND provision.
Ability to oversee the assessment and identification process for students' needs.
Knowledge of effective intervention strategies and support services for SEND students.
Strong IT skills including Microsoft packages or equivalent (e.g. G Suite).
