The Research Nurse will play a key role in ensuring that any research undertaken within the Care settings department safeguards the wellbeing of the patients and is conducted according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and the Medicines for Human Use (Clinical Trial) Regulations 2004 and Amended Regulations 2006.

Working collaboratively with the clinical trials team and the wider multidisciplinary team in the management of research patients. They will also act as a patient advocate providing support and assistance as required and assist in the coordination and management of a portfolio of clinical research studies.

The post holder will be required to work flexibly across sites within the RDN: South London geography. The employing Trust will be Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering an agreed number of portfolios of clinical trials within the Secondary, Primary Care and Community settings across the South London region. ● Ensure that clinical trials are effectively archived as required.

Short summary

The Quantitative Stem Cell Biology lab, headed by Dr Silvia Santos, is seeking a Senior Laboratory Research Scientist (SLRS). The successful candidate will investigate spatio-temporal control of cell division and cell cycle remodelling during cellular differentiation using 2D and 3D stem cell-based models of human gastrulation. The postholder will drive a research project and contribute to collaborative projects within the lab. The postholder will benefit from excellent mentorship and training.

The research group
The Quantitative Stem Cell Biology lab, headed by Dr Silvia Santos, was established in 2018 at the Francis Crick Institute. The lab’s primary focus is understanding cell decision-making. Current areas of research include understanding regulatory mechanism regulating cell fate specification, cell cycle remodeling during cellular differentiation and the interplay between metabolism, cell cycle and cell fate. There is a strong focus on single cell analysis and advanced live cell imaging. The lab uses a variety of model systems: mouse and human embryonic stem cells (ESC), 3D organoid models of mouse and human development and mouse embryos.
The team is multi-disciplinary, diverse and currently composed of three PhD students, two post-doctoral fellow and one principal laboratory research scientist. The Santos lab promotes independent and creative thinking and all members are committed to providing excellent training and mentorship.

Accurately update and maintain the LMS with course information. Assess user competence during training identifying and taking action where staff fail to achieve the required level. Actions include completing a report or recording a risk.Ensure both the Training Manager and appropriate Line Manager(s) are informed and record using agreed processes. Identify complex user queries and take appropriate action to resolve these in conjunction with colleagues/Super Users/Training Manager. Ensure training provided meets the needs of the service and can be delivered to the timescales agreed. Provide support based on expert knowledge of EHR applications/modules and operational processes in order to deliver high quality, effective and timely training to multidisciplinary end users. Respond effectively, and within the Trust agreed target timescales, to end user support queries logged on the IT Service Desk Policy/Service Level of Supervision Support end users to achieve required competency of the required application(s), using pre-determined course materials. In conjunction with the Training Manager, ensure effective training timetables are implemented and user attendance is reported accurately, according to relevant processes. There will be a requirement to deliver training outside of normal working hours, evenings and weekends. Review and evaluate end user feedback, identifying constructive ideas for improving future delivery/content. Ensure changes continue to meet business needs. Produce and ensure course/lesson plans are relevant, up to date and in line with current practice and policies. Maintain accurate training records for audit purposes.
