A Research Fellow is sought to join the Wellcome Trust funded discovery project After the end: Lived experiences and aftermaths of Diseases, Disasters and Drugs in global health. This is an exciting, challenging and varied role developing and delivering the research objectives of the research project.

You will need to develop strong relationships with collaborators in the UK, Sierra Leone, South-East Asia and Brazil, and will work with a variety of key stakeholders including academic collaborators, external partners, fieldworkers and colleagues. This will require you to have the ability to regularly travel to Sierra Leone, South-East Asia and Brazil to engage in data collection and project development.

You will also need to have a PhD in psychology, sociology or a related discipline, or equivalent experience, as well as significant experience of collecting, analysing and reporting qualitative data using methods such as focus groups, semi structured interviews and ethnography.

You will help to ensure that the project's fieldwork is done to the highest standard, in compliance with ethics obligations and data protection requirements. You will also make presentations at conferences, or exhibit work in other appropriate events, and write up research work for publication.

What skills and experience we're looking for

Main purpose of the role

To work with teachers as part of a professional team to support teaching and learning for SEN pupils. Providing learning support to pupils who need particular help to overcome barriers to learning, such as those with moderate, severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties and/or behavioural, social, communication, sensory or physical disabilities.

Core responsibilities and tasks

Key duties:

1. Work with individuals or small groups of pupils in the classroom under the direct supervision of teaching staff e.g. reading, crafts etc and provide feedback to the teacher

2. Work with pupils on therapy or care programmes, designed and supervised by a therapist/care professional

3. Support pupils to understand instructions support independent learning and inclusion of all pupils

4. Support the teacher in behaviour management and keeping pupils on task

5. Attend to pupils’ personal needs including toileting, hygiene, dressing and eating, as well as help with social, welfare and health matters, reporting problems to the teacher as appropriate Physically assist pupils in activities (may involve lifting, where mobility is an issue)

6. Prepare and clear up the learning environment and resources and contribute to maintaining a safe learning environment, including photocopying, filing and the display and presentation of pupils’ work.

Additional Support Needs Assistants at this level may also undertake any or all of the following:

1. Administer medication in accordance with an agreed plan under direction of healthcare practitioner and following appropriate training

MAT Recruitment are currently working with a dynamic PRU in Liverpool to hire a Learning Support Assistant to join a collaborative team and support young people through their learning journey. This is a temporary position, with the view to becoming permanent. In this role you will be working with a dedicated team and responsible to the School SENDCo.

Job Purpose:

To under undertake education support duties and assist the class teacher in the day to day needs of the pupils in their care, to enable the teacher to implement the curriculum and respond to the pupils’ needs.
To maintain complete confidentiality on all school matters.
Provide support for class teachers and help children with their educational and social development, both in and out of the classroom.
To contribute to the provision for children within a class or year group.
To contribute to the promotion of the well-being of children within the Academy.
To promote and safeguard the welfare of children you teach or come into contact with.
Be responsible, as a member of staff, for promoting and developing a positive culture and to ensure diversity within the Academy community is recognised and respected.
Contribute to the development of the Academy’s vision, values and aims and to abide by agreed professional behaviours and attitudes.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide pupils with the level and type of support specified by the teacher, whilst at the same time encouraging the pupils towards independence and accepting responsibility for their own behaviour.
Establish a good relationship with pupils by using language and other communication skills that the pupils can understand and relate to.
To supervise children during breaks – both lunch and play.
Encourage pupils to interact with each other in an appropriate and acceptable manner.
Promote positive pupil behaviour in line with Academy policies by the use of praise and encouragement.
If necessary, help pupils with toileting and dressing, paying particular attention to hygiene.
To supervise the children’s play involving toys and apparatus and role play under the direction of the teacher.
To assist with language and other activities under the direction of the teacher.
To supervise and support the activities of individual and groups of children under the direction of the teacher.
To undertake playground supervision during the mid-morning and/or afternoon breaks and to deal with unruly behaviour and, where necessary, report difficulties to a member of the teaching staff. Supervise children in the dining area ensuring good standards of behaviour and manners and reporting any incidents of unacceptable behaviour to the Behaviour Team or Year Leader.
Work under the direction of the teacher to prepare and maintain an effective learning environment, by preparing work materials and apparatus and clearing up afterwards.
Set out learning materials as directed by the teacher so that pupils are able to participate safely and effectively in the planned activities.
To liaise regularly with the teacher and/or take part in planning meetings, inset days and any other meetings as required.
Provide consistent and effective support for colleagues in line with the requirements and responsibilities
of your role.
To assist in the recording of lessons and assessment as required by the teacher.
To take part in training activities offered by the Academy and the county to further knowledge.
To take part in such activities, including swimming and outings, as may be required.
