The Substation Operator (Instructor) must have the technical qualifications and knowledge required to perform all duties, tasks, and responsibilities contained in the Substation Operator/D.C. Substation Operator job standard. While permanently assigned to the TTC, the incumbent is required to maintain currency in work practices, safety procedures, and certifications of the trade. The job may perform field work.

As a Substation Operator (Instructor), you will:

• Collaborates with Transmission Field Services (TFS) management, craft committee, and functional team in development of course outlines, lesson plans, and testing and evaluation materials to meet craft training objectives established by management.
• Provides instruction in general trade theory and substation operations and switching practices and procedure utilizing various delivery approaches or combination of methods (e.g., classroom, virtual, simulated controlled environment, etc.)
• Provide reports and feedback to managers, field supervisors, or Craft Committees, as appropriate.
• Sets the pace and example of behavior on the jobs (field/classroom), explain work rules, regulations, and policies.
• Develops assessment methods and instruments (written examination, skills-based exercises, etc.) appropriate for the subject matter.
• Plan, schedule and coordinate training courses. Arranges for guest speakers/instructors, arranges equipment and suitable training locations based on need (e.g., field, lab, etc.) or subject matter (physical/virtual).
• Maintains training records (e.g., examination results, training evaluation forms).

The Electrician (Instructor) must have the technical qualifications and knowledge required to perform and instruct on all duties, tasks, and responsibilities contained in the electrician job standard. While permanently assigned to the TTC, the incumbent of the job is required to maintain currency in trade work practices, safety procedures, and maintain certifications for the performance of field maintenance work.

As an Electrician (Instructor), you will:

• Collaborates with Transmission Field Services (TFS) management, craft committee, and functional team in development of course outlines, lesson plans, and testing and evaluation materials to meet short and long-term craft training objectives established by management.
• Plans, schedule and coordinate training courses. Arranges for guest speakers/instructors, arranges equipment and suitable training locations based on need (e.g., field, lab, etc.) or subject matter (physical/virtual).
• Provides instruction in general trade theory work practices and procedures of the trade utilizing various delivery approaches or combination of methods (e.g., classroom, virtual, simulated controlled environment, etc.)
• Obtains feedback and input on effectiveness of training from participants, field supervisors, managers, and others.
• Develops assessment methods and instruments (written examination, skills-based exercises, etc.) appropriate for the subject matter.
• Maintains training records (e.g., examination results, training evaluation forms).

• Use only approved methods, procedures and techniques in job functions and in operation of aircraft and stresses standardization of job functions. Conducts ground school on aircraft systems in support of flight units.
• Applies the latest methods and techniques of instruction obtained through attendance at formal instructor training courses and seminars.
• Maintains liaison with aviation safety inspectors who conduct the Air Carrier Airmen Certification Program, and serves in an advisory and consulting capacity on job functions in that specialty.
• Recommends improvements and revisions to management on existing approved courses and the overall training program.
• Develops courses, outlines, and lesson plans necessary to conduct the ground training phase. Develops and analyzes tests to assure the objectives of the course are met.
• Familiarizes students with the latest regulations and requirements affecting the aviation safety inspector's job functions.
• Standardizes the inspector's performance, proficiency and timing relative to compliance with existing job functions procedures.
• Evaluates and reports the capabilities and performance of each student. Also reports areas in which further study and training are necessary.
• May be assigned responsibilities as course manager of one or more courses administered by the branch. May also be temporarily assigned to special projects to accomplish work as may be required.
• The Academy instructor has responsibility which requires highly specialized training, significant managerial skills, specific technical qualifications, and detailed proficiency equal to the highest nonsupervisory grade level in the field that significantly represents the occupational workforce.
• Possesses a high degree of human relations and communications skills which enables the individual to function as an agency role model for both new and current FAA employees.
• Possesses the skills to be able to understand and convert procedural requirements into overall function design of the FAA Academy's CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE to provide reliable and accurate course development and instruction. Maintains technical knowledge and currency equivalent to that of the highest level full performance specialist.
• The incumbent must have an in depth knowledge of the FAA Academy training process as it relates to the Aviation Safety Inspector work force job functions. Required to maintain a high level of proficiency in the operation of high performance aircraft used in air transportation; the effectiveness with which the branch training programs are coordinated and implemented will depend upon the aeronautical knowledge and proficiency, while maintaining expertise in commercial and/or general aviation state-of-the-art training programs.
• Provides support to the management team in the preparation and administration of the budget; coordination of staff training and travel administration; program management and planning; workload scheduling; space utilization, resource management; security; property management - accountable items; reports and records as required.
• When performing the duties of team coordinator, the employee will coordinate resources, such as, rooms and supplies; work schedules; T&A's; travel orders; suspenses; and, budget inputs.

*Incumbent must hold an airline transport pilot certificate or hold a commercial pilot certificate with multiengine land and instrument ratings and be eligible for an airline transport pilot certificate.
