CLINICAL RESEARCH FELLOW IN HAEMATOLOGY (LYMPHOID)

Applications are invited to apply for this exciting opportunity to work within a large, dynamic trials unit looking after haemato-oncology patients. It is a 1-year fixed term post on the Early Phase Cancer Trials Unit (EPCTU) in the Department of Oncology and Haematology.

The postholder will be responsible for the day-to-day management of patients with haematological malignancy (with a focus on lymphoid) on the Early Phase Cancer Trials Unit. There will be an opportunity to develop research projects in clinical trials and translational science, and training will focus on the design, setting up and execution of clinical research.

The post is available from September 2024.

The Department of Computer Science is looking to employ a Postdoctoral Researcher to work within an interdisciplinary team on securing convergent ultra-large scale infrastructures (SCULI). The SCULI project is a research collaboration between University of Oxford, University of Bristol and the University of Lancaster that will be working closely with stakeholders and organisations from industry and the critical national infrastructure sectors.

The project is investigating how to secure emerging ultra-large scale digital infrastructures which are seeing convergence and connectivity at unprecedented scale. This is true for both current critical national infrastructures and emerging future systems, e.g., smart cities, intelligent transportation, high-value manufacturing and Industry 4.0. Cybersecurity of such ultra-large scale infrastructures faces unprecedented complexity. Diverse legacy and non-legacy software and hardware compose on-the-fly to deliver services to millions of users with varying requirements and unpredictable actions. This complexity is compounded by intricate supply-chains and the need to deliver resilient operations in the presence of untrusted, partially trusted or compromised elements.

The successful candidate will be required to work primarily under the direction of Professor Ivan Flechais, with guidance from other senior academics and will be based in the Oxford team focused on the following research objectives:

• Predictability at ultra-large scale: How to elicit, specify and validate security assurances for service composition in the presence of uncertainty, dynamism and human behaviour (including addressing direct and indirect dependencies and resulting systemic risks)?

It is essential that successful candidate would hold a relevant PhD/DPhil or being close to completion in computer science or information systems.
In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with researchers working across the SCULI project, and cybersecurity professionals from business and industry.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Specialist Research Nurse to join the Oxford Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) team at the Churchill Hospital.

The Senior Specialist Nurse will lead the nursing team to provide expert nursing care to patients referred to the Oxford BMT service contributing to this within the BMT pathway through management of their own caseload.

The post holder will work in collaboration with the Haematology Trial Unit , which is involved in a wide spectrum of clinical research relating to blood disorders including advanced cellular therapeutics. The team works in collaboration with academic and commercial partners/other funding bodies and is responsible for the delivery of the phase 1-3 haematology research portfolio.

The Specialist Research Nurse will
• Responsibility for operational management of the clinical research delivery team

Responsibility for strategic leadership of clinical research delivery team

Responsibility for the management of the trial portfolio and own allocated portfolio of studies and study participants including, as required:

Ø Leading and co-ordinating a portfolio of studies

Ø Planning

Ø Scheduling

Ø Conduct including intervention

Ø Recruitment & retention of participants

Data management

v Fulfil the expectations and capabilities as delegated by the Sponsor, Chief Investigator or Principal Investigator as set out in GCP & Research Governance Framework

v Work collaboratively with OUH and external research & service delivery colleagues to ensure high quality participant care and research delivery.

v Work collaboratively with service delivery colleagues to promote clinical research delivery and integrated care delivery as appropriate.

v Act as PI/CI on non-interventional studies, as appropriate.

In summary, the post holder will provide expert nursing care to patients enrolled into clinical trials at the Oxford BMT Research service.

Specifically, this would include:


• Be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care during participation in cell therapy clinical research trials (eg bone marrow transplant or CAR-T therapy trials)

• Manage own clinical workload and co-ordinate allocated clinical trials and research studies.

• Practice in compliance with the code of professional conduct, being responsible and accountable for their decisions, actions, or omissions, taking responsibility for clinical decisions where competent to do so.

• Demonstrate expert knowledge and skills in the management of clinical research participants.

• Utilise effective communication skills through a variety of methods, supporting participants in decision making in relation to study entry and participation.

• Deliver effective communication skills with colleagues both internally and/or externally, in verbal, non-verbal and written communication methods, adapting to changing parameters as required, which includes thorough accurate documentation in patient records as required. • Provides and receives highly sensitive, complex or contentious information relating to participant involvement and care, and communicates information to participants, families or carers with respect, compassion and empathy

• Participate in and ensure compliance with Informed Consent Procedures, acting within boundaries of own competency, research regulation and Trust policies/SOPs.

• Use own professional judgment identifying when to escalate and seek senior support/guidance.

• Lead the completion of administrative tasks, including feasibility, study set up, close out & archiving.

• Ensure compliance with agreed SOPs, across all team members.

• Ensure all necessary regulatory approvals are in place prior to approaching potential study participants.

• Work within the limits of the approved protocol and any approved amendments.

• Support the haematology ward, ambulatory care and day treatment unit staff in caring for these patients

To help organise and facilitate co-design workshops with community groups and individuals with lived experience of psychosis from Bangladeshi, Black African, and Black Caribbean backgrounds. Screening and recruitment of patients diagnosed with psychosis and patients at ultra high risk pf psychosis. This will involve speaking to referrers regularly, attending clinical team meetings, visiting community mental health teams, hospital wards, as well as home based treatment teams. There will be monthly recruitment targets for all studies. The post-holder will be joining a team of research assistants to help meet these targets. Completing eligibility screening assessments and seeking informed consent from patients. Carrying out the assessments for the trials. The trial patients will be assessed on a range of measures at a number of time points for each study. You will need to arrange these interviews and administer clinical interviews, assessment tasks, and self-report questionnaires. Participants will be seen in clinic settings or at home across a large geographical area. Patients are seen in multiple NHS trusts including: Oxford Health, Northamptonshire Healthcare, Berkshire Healthcare, and Central Northwest London (Milton Keynes). Assessments will be carried out blind (i.e. you should not know which condition thepatients have been randomised to). You will need to remind staff and patients not to tell you the allocation. And you will need to report if you have become unblinded. It will be crucial to maintain very high follow-up rates for the trial participants, meaning you will need excellent engagement skills. Good record-keeping will be needed, including updating medical records with trial progress and managing recruitment databases. Follow standard operational procedures for the trial and NHS Trust policy regarding safeguarding of vulnerable adults and children.
