What you will do
Let’s do this. Let’s change the world! In this vital role you will provide and/or direct process optimization strategies and/or troubleshooting of operational issues in the site utilities operation, including equipment and automation areas. Applies advanced and diverse engineering principles to the design and implementation of major system modifications, experiments, process and/or capital projects. Develops, organizes, analyzes and presents interpretation of results for operational issues or engineering projects of significant scope and complexity. This role is crucial for Amgen’s success and it will be a key individual contributor leader in the Facilities and Engineering organization.
Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop engineering policies and procedures that impact multiple organizational units.
- Supervise, coordinate, and review work contractors/suppliers on an ongoing basis as well as on a project basis.
- Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices outside of the area of discipline expertise to the broad variety of assignments in related fields.
- Serves as a peer-recognized engineering technology specialist in the area of central utilities' generation, distribution, and automated control systems, with overall responsibility for determining methodologies in that area.
- Application of mature engineering knowledge in planning and conducting projects.
- Operate under a culture of problem-solving and continuous improvement.
- Work with global engineering, manufacturing, process development, utilities, facilities, quality assurance, and validation departments in developing requirements and recommendations for large and/or highly complex system/facility modifications.
- Work with project managers to complete design and engineering projects within schedule, budget and quality constraints.
- Coordinate the work of consultants, architects and engineering firms on development of standard design documents.
- Develop technical solutions to complex problems using ingenuity, innovation, and creativity.
- Complete complex or novel assignments with the development of new and/or improved engineering techniques and procedures.

Basic Qualifications:
Doctorate degree in Engineering
Or
Master’s degree in Engineering and 3 years of Engineering support experience
Or
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of Engineering support experience
Beyond that, additional preferred qualifications are:
- Knowledge in Automation control systems configuration and troubleshooting.
- Experience with utility generation equipment.
- Experience managing projects and interacting with external suppliers and/or vendors.
- Familiarity with validation and documentation processes in a highly regulated environment.
- Working knowledge of pharmaceutical/biotech processes.
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to develop solutions to routine technical problems and apply engineering science for process improvements and troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of commissioning/validation processes as applied to new equipment installations.
- Continuous improvement and operational excellence mentality.
- Working knowledge of budgeting and financial analysis tools.
- Flexibility to work extended shifts and/or weekends as per business needs.
- Fluent communication skills in writing and speaking in English and Spanish (Bilingual)
- Skills in the following areas: Negotiation, Persuasion, Collaboration, Project cost development, Conflict Resolution, Leadership, Team building & Schedule, and Resource loading development.
