Management Responsibilities

The Maintenance Team Manager will lead a team of Plant Fitter Mechanics with responsibility for managing all aspects of the Maintenance Team operations - covering:

• Review the Maintenance Team working practices – covering fault finding, diagnostics, reactive and planned maintenance across all processing operations, machine types and vehicles.
• To recruit and on board additional Plant Fitter & Mechanic staff (as required) to ensure the efficient management and operations of all aspects of the Maintenance Team.
• Internal Reporting & Documents Review – to review and update the reporting processes and documents – including but not limited to – processing machinery, mobile plant and vehicles fault finding, risk and issue logs, planned & reactive maintenance record keeping & documents, HSE, 3rd party suppliers parts & inventory, budget & cost management/approvals with MD & Finance team.

Main Tasks

The Maintenance team lead will be responsible for managing the team workload, scheduling & time allocation to identify, schedule and complete Maintenance work across the operational sites and also participate in and be responsible for carrying out scheduled & reactive Maintenance tasks covering:

• Inspect and troubleshoot industrial shredders, granulators, conveyor belts and other plant machinery.
• Fixing faults on plant machinery or arranging for replacements to be installed.
• Carrying out inspections on plant machinery.
• Carrying out routine scheduled maintenance work for lorries.
• Preventative maintenance.
• Welding activities when necessary.
• Dealing with breakdowns, unplanned problems, and repairs.
• Check functionality of safety systems.
• Fitting new parts and making sure equipment is working correctly.

Candidate Attributes and Experience

• Previous heavy plant, mechanical and electrical experience.
• Experience in repairing mobile plant such as forklifts, Lorries.
• Background in Lorries (HGV) maintenance or any vehicle maintenance; - not mandatory, however represents an advantage.
• Experience in repairing any machinery such as conveyor belts, industrial shredders, granulators.
• Experience in repairing/maintaining any industrial machinery.
• Basic knowledge of electrical systems — is an advantage but not essential.
• Welding skills.

This is a brand new flexible position that has opened for an experienced multiskilled engineer capable of commissioning, running all technical aspects of a site and building a team from the ground up.

The Role:

You will be working alongside the production manager taking responsibility for the technical installations and maintenance on the site. This will include a lot of project work and site developments including commissioning a full new production line independently. Requirements:

• Previous experience in industrial manufacturing environments, (injection moulding, CNC machinery or plastic manufacturing would be an advantage)
• Able to provide evidence of showing initiative, handling commissioning / preventative maintenance / continuous improvement projects on site and taking charge of large scale projects.
• Ability to support, train and manage a variety of different personalities and skillsets levels on manufacturing equipment / processes.

The Role

• Programme / Project Management Experience; technically managing projects, working with Project Managers to ensure time, cost and quality expectations are met.

QTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state-of-the-art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems including the world leading Banshee target. The effectiveness of military operations at the front line is based on the Armed Services having the right equipment and having effectively trained against realistic threats. To achieve this, military equipment needs to be rigorously tested and integrated with the war fighter, and comprehensive training conducted prior to entering the theatre of operations.

QTS is a world leader in the design, development, manufacture and operation of advanced target systems for live-fire training exercises and weapons test and evaluation.

The role

As a Aerospace Engineering Manager, you will report to the Head of Engineering. you'll have direct responsibility for both managing the Aerospace Engineering team, as well as providing technical expertise to our cutting-edge new product development (NPI) field including the Banshee NG (Next Generation).

Day-to-day you'll:

• Lead, plan, and direct a team of highly professional engineers, working in a design / development and analysis technical environment.
• Provide technical leadership to projects, ensuring successful integration of inputs from subject matter experts within the Aerospace Engineering domain and work closely with Programme / Project Managers / engineers, and other business functions, in the delivery of technical solutions, on time, within set budget milestones, and to required quality expectations.
• Line manage the Aerospace Engineering team, including the creation of personal development plans, and recruiting into the team, when required.
• Review and approve technical documentation, including design reports, drawings, flight test plans, and other product / project technical documentation.
• Ensure that Engineering activities are delivered in line with company procedures, and assist in the development of improved processes to facilitate the success of future development projects.
• Provide technical support and advice to customers and internal stakeholders, including the Field Services team.
• Develop and mentor junior employees, to facilitate future growth of the business.
• Provide support to flight trials / customer flight tests, with estimated 10% travel overseas.

This role is full time, 37-hours per week, based at our Ashford site, with hybrid working options.

Essential experience of the Aerospace Engineering Manager

• Experience of managing complex engineering projects through full life cycle, from initial proposal, up to production release.
• Possess high level technical understanding of the some of following disciplines: Aerodynamics, Aerostructures, Aeroelasticity, Flight Dynamics, Composite Materials development, alongside broad aerospace engineering knowledge,
• Have experience of working with Project Managers, ensuring projects are kept 'on track' and within project parameters (cost, time, scope, resources, etc.),
• Possess a strong understanding of other engineering disciplines, to enable effective systems integration, preferably having previously been part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team,
• Have strong leadership and organisational skills, with previous proven line management experience,
• Have had exposure to managing customer expectations / requirements, and presenting engineering solutions

Qualifications for the Aerospace Engineering Manager

• You will have a degree in Aerospace / Aeronautical engineering, and extensive relevant engineering experience, ideally in an Aircraft, Unmanned Aerial System or Missile design environment, at a platform level.
