The Chief Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the entire engineering and maintenance operations of the property. This includes ensuring that all building systems, facilities, and equipment are functioning efficiently and safely. The role requires strong leadership skills, extensive technical knowledge, and the ability to manage a team of engineers and maintenance personnel to uphold the hotel's high standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

• Lead and manage the engineering department, including hiring, training, and developing the team. Foster a positive and productive work environment.
• Ensure all team members are trained on safety, emergency procedures, and standard operating procedures.

Maintenance and Operations:

• Oversee the maintenance and repair of all hotel facilities, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive preventive maintenance program.
• Ensure that all equipment and systems are functioning optimally and efficiently.

Project Management:

• Plan, coordinate, and manage engineering projects, including renovations and new installations.
• Collaborate with contractors, architects, and designers to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
• Monitor and control project expenditures.

Safety and Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with all local regulations, including health and safety standards.
• Conduct regular safety inspections and audits.
• Implement and oversee emergency response procedures.

Energy Management:

• Develop and implement energy conservation programs to reduce costs and environmental impact.
• Monitor energy consumption and identify opportunities for improvement.
• Report on energy usage and savings.

Budgeting and Financial Management:

• Prepare and manage the engineering department’s budget.
• Monitor and control expenses to ensure they are within budgetary limits.
• Develop cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or safety.

Guest and Staff Support:

• Ensure prompt and efficient resolution of maintenance issues affecting guests or staff.
• Collaborate with other departments to support their engineering and maintenance needs.
• Maintain a high level of guest satisfaction through timely and effective maintenance services.

Reporting to the Portfolio General Manager, you will be part of the leadership team and manage engineering function with a hands on approach.

Keys duties include, but are not limited to the following:

• Ensure compliance standards are met in aspects of building, equipment, energy consumption, water, contractors, environmental and other brand programs.
• Proactively review hotel products, carry out maintenance and general repairs to ensure the smooth operation of all hotel departments

What will a day in this role look like:
 

• Provide technical guidance and oversight throughout the development and construction phases of wind farm and other renewable energy technology projects.
• Support project teams in understanding and mitigating risks associated with renewable energy projects.
• Oversee the design process of wind farms to ensure compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
• Support the development and preparation of bids for renewable energy projects, including technical specifications and cost estimates.
• Be a technical practice leader for wind farm projects nationally, ensuring best practices and knowledge dissemination across the organisation

Operating as a strategic business partner that will champion all things safety, security, engineering and sustainability and lead and coordinate the overall activities of the Engineering department & collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless hotel operation.

What you’ll be doing:

Identify and implement new ideas, technologies, or processes to increase organisational efficiency, productivity, quality, safety, and/or savings for the engineering department and hotel.

• Undergo and lead detailed defect requirements for pre and post opening of the hotel
• Planning and execution of the preventive maintenance plan
• Energy sufficiency in the best sustainable way possible
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for all equipment and facilities
• Ensure that the hotel meets or exceeds all safety and environmental regulations
