The role
As a Mechanical Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary where you will support nuclear implicated submarine maintenance activities on Western Europe's largest Naval Base. You will also have the opportunity to further develop your skills with excellent support for progression towards chartership.
Day to day, you'll maintain and control modifications to, and deviations from, the design intent of nuclear implicated process/pressure systems and act as the custodian of reference design documentation.
Responsibilities as a Mechanical Engineer will also include:
- Undertaking design activities from requirements capture, design development, implementation and close out, to through-life support, decommissioning and disposal.
- Focusing on ensuring compliance with licence conditions, statutory legislation and design codes/standards, producing design guidance, substantiation and analyses and delivering against agreed budgets/timescales.
- Providing on-site technical support, advice and guidance to equipment owners, operators and maintainers.
This role is full time 36 hours and will be based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard with hybrid working from home arrangements.
Essential experience of the Mechanical Engineer:
- Proven background as a Mechanical / Design Engineer.
- Knowledge of pressure systems (pipework, tanks, pumps, overpressure protection etc.), computer aided design and engineering.
- Experience of technical problem solving in an engineering environment.
- Demonstrable experience of working within the design lifecycle.
Qualifications for the Mechanical Engineer:
- A relevant STEM Level 5 qualification i.e. HND/Foundation Degree or equivalent qualification supplemented by relevant experience in an appropriate engineering discipline.
Please note that this position is subject to enhanced national security vetting. The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements (this may include obtaining SC, NNPPI or Developed Vetting (DV) level of security clearances).
