The position serves as a Project Engineer at an assigned Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare System. This position performs project planning, produces designs, manages designs, manages construction, and provides construction administration for Minor Construction Projects, Non-Recurring Maintenance (NRM) Projects, Station Level Projects, and Leases, including all areas and aspects (architectural, electrical, life safety, mechanical, civil, structural, etc.) at an assigned medical center and associated Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC)'s. A. Performs Healthcare Planning/Design Management
The position determines the requirements for healthcare projects in relation to the needs of the Healthcare System, inclusive of the parent site, as well as off-site locations under the auspice of the Healthcare System, whether VA owned or leased. Project needs are determined for the organization down to the department level based on a broad array of guidelines, standards, regulatory requirements and mission priorities. The position evaluates how to accomplish the requirements of the project and determines the associated risks necessary to complete the construction within the healthcare facility and identify ways to mitigate project risk.

The position provides a broad review of all disciplines of Engineering when applied to a healthcare environment to support construction document reviews and preparation.

The position is a member as assigned to certain key committees including A/E Selection Committee, Construction Technical Evaluation Committee, and various Design Teams including construction projects where the incumbent acts as a project lead and may chair the committees.

B. Manages Healthcare Design and Construction Administration
The position uses independent seasoned engineering judgment in evaluating and performing scheduling and layout of operations, inspection, and surveillance of materials, methods, and equipment used in construction.

The position provides technical troubleshooting techniques to evaluate and provide in-depth forensic data to why specialized medical systems, utility and/or components of the facility have failed.

C. Performs Healthcare Construction Management and Post Project Activities
The position provides direction and guidance to the contractor for construction within the facility. Provides approvals on means and methods performance of work and how it is conducted within a medical environment to ensure impacts of the construction does not impact patient care operation or provides a risk to patients or staff.

Explores background information (literature, reports, and discussions with others having specialized knowledge of the issue) including code reference checks (National Fire Protection Act, International Building Code, Americans with Disabilities Act), and multiple other related jurisdictional codes.

Project management: Assist senior staff members in planning, engineering management, operation, and overall coordination; and for providing advice, assistance and information on all matters related to assigned conventional projects of moderate complexity. Work typically requires coordination of project work requirements with other technical and administrative elements within the agency. Applies standardized knowledge of engineering principles, methods, techniques, and criteria to projects that are conventional in nature. Provides engineering services associated with job order contracting and construction to include evaluating tenant requirements; to establish scope of work; design criteria; and estimates of design time and costs; providing technical assistance to support contract administration; accomplishing study/design requirements; and preparing/coordinating design packages for renovations, repairs and or alterations.

Customer support: Serves as a central point-of-contact for status of all engineering work requests of a short-term nature. Reviews work requests for feasibility, compliance with restrictions imposed by regulatory and statutory directives and the impact of the planned operation and maintenance of the installation. Within the parameters of prior experience, determines which requests the incumbent can approve and have processed, and which require other approving authorities. Based on determinations, makes recommendations to the methods or means for accomplishment or provides all required information, such as scope of work and costs, to other authorities for their decision. Ensures that work requests are processed in accordance with established operating procedures, that they are checked for duplication, and they are processed in accordance with approved priorities. Provides technical assistance to other parties as may be required to improve work management and productivity.

Technical reviews: Reviews and checks technical aspects such as drawings, specifications, quantities, costs, accuracy, completeness and conformity with requirements for planned projects where precedence has already been established. Participates in the preparation of input to procurement packages to ensure correct content and format of technical data. Monitors drawings and the methods used in their preparation. Attends meetings with pertinent personnel to evaluate progress and reviews completed work. Verifies data presented by contractors or other personnel and discusses any special requirements for specification control and source control drawings.

Long-term planning: As a team member, participates in projects of a broad and complex nature requiring approval of advanced engineering concepts by senior staff members. We are seeking a skilled technician to join the School of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, as part of our Operations Team. The Operations Team provides logistical, technical and facilities support, delivering well-functioning core services that enables all work within the School. The role is focused on assisting with the safe management of all chemical stocks and associated equipment; for example, delivery, transport, storage, inventory management, audits and disposal. Within this role, we are looking for a candidate who embraces and champions the highest health and safety practices and can positively contribute to the workplace culture in this area. Furthermore, the successful applicant will aid the broader Operations Team and assist in delivering the facilities that underpins the education, research and enterprise activities of the School.

To be successful, a relevant Chemistry degree is desirable, alongside prior experience of chemical hazard management and knowledge of chemical health and safety. Prior experience of working within a technical role as part of a team, demonstrating the ability to effectively prioritise tasks and positively influence the team dynamic, would be advantageous. o Work closely with the factory manager to review and implement factory improvements
o Maintain adequate supplies of machine spares/tooling etc.
o Management of safety training for operators (FLT, stackers, machines etc.)
o Ensuring the factory operates to current H&S legislation and makes appropriate changes and/or suggestions to ensure we are working to this level at all times
o Ensure all regulatory maintenance is carried out when required (LOLER testing, pressure testing etc.)
o Supervision and management of the security contracts for the building
o Working with procurement when new machinery is purchased to ensure appropriate safety measures are considered, and training arranged for operators and maintenance staff
o Responsible for accurate and up to date record keeping for all planned and completed maintenance, including budget monitoring and control
o Clear and accurate communication to factory management and Directors relating to budgets, schedules and any unplanned expenses incurred

Your new role
Within your new role you will be working in a state-of-the-art facility as part of a dedicated team to manufacture equipment for the defence industry. This is an opportunity to join a world-class organisation, delivering a secured long-term contract to the MOD. Operators will be required to mechanically fit components adhering to engineering drawings and work instructions. Training will be provided.

What you'll need to succeed
In order to succeed in this position, it is essential you have:

• A Time Served apprenticeship and/or the equivalent qualifications
• Competency in a mechanical fitting environment (automotive/HGV experience advantageous)
• The ability to work a variety of tools and engineering equipment
• To be able to work as part of a team
