Title: Air Traffic Engineer ApprenticeLocation: Hawarden Airport, CH4 0DRWorking Week: 37.5 hours per week, Monday – FridayApprenticeship Qualification: NVQ Level 3 Electrical/Electronic Engineering / HNC Level 4 Electrical/Electronic Engineering Expected Apprenticeship Duration: 42 months Serco Defence Hawarden Airport have an exciting opportunity for an Apprentice Engineer to join their Air Traffic Engineering team, working towards the role of Air Traffic Engineer (ATE) with the full qualifications of the Air Traffic Safety Electronics Personnel (ATSEP) requirements to meet UK CAA standards.
Throughout the duration of the apprenticeship the Apprentice Engineer will be required to attend Coleg Cambria for off-the-job training to achieve initially a NVQ Level 3 Electrical/Electronic Engineering leading to a HNC level 4 in Electrical/Electronic Engineering. The time needed to achieve this will be accommodated though part-time education/day-release from Hawarden Airport.
This is a specialist role and equipment training will be provided following successful completion of the HNC Level 4 and acceptance into a fulltime ATE role. Reporting to the Senior Air Traffic Engineer, the Apprentice Engineer will work as part of a team of Engineers providing equipment monitoring, preventive and reactive maintenance of Air Traffic Services (ATS) Communication, Navigation and Surveillance (CNS) equipment.
We are looking for someone who has a strong desire to develop a career in a highly rewarding professional electronics-based engineering role in an aviation environment which requires a methodical and diligent attitude to problem solving to meet the exacting high standards of equipment functionality and safety.
Key Accountabilities:
- Deliver against your Apprenticeship Plan to ensure all required modules are successfully completed on time and to a good level.
- Work cohesively with the engineering and management team in support of safe ATS.
What you’ll need to do the role:
- Be highly motivated, hardworking, dedicated and passionate about working in an electronic focussed engineering career with great prospects.
- GCSEs in Maths (grade B), English Language, Science and another subject (grade C)
- Hold or working towards NVQ Level 2 in Electronics (or similar) or A Levels in Maths and Physics at grade C or above.
- Be eligible to obtain an SC Clearance (Clearances are provided by Serco)
- There is a requirement to work at height (climbing masts) in this role. Candidates must be physically and mentally fit to pass medical fitness requirements and comfortable working at height.
Additional features of the role:
- The Apprentice will be required to complete ATSEP training and specialist equipment training, following successful completion of the NVQ level 3 which will require some travelling which may be abroad.
- Airside driving on an airfield will form part of this role. A current driving license would be an advantage.
- Serco will support the Apprentice Engineer’s personal and professional development as they progress through the HNC and role specific training.
