We are running our 16th cohort of Trainee Nursing Associate Apprentices, working in partnership The University of Cumbria.

This post is an apprenticeship post commencing on the March 2025 cohort which will see you develop to a NMC registered Nursing Associate, completing a 2 year foundation degree training programme. The course is fully funded.

This post is specifically for the South Lakes Home Based Treatment Team, Garburn House, Westmorland Hospital, Kendal, Cumbria, LA9 7RG

As a trainee you will be based within clinical practice for the duration of the programme and will have study leave to attend University. You will rotate through different services within your speciality / service area (where applicable) and undertake block placements outside of your normal place of work, to gain a breadth of experience and skills.

Some travel is required so you must either be a car driver or be prepared to access public transport when on placement. You could be expected to travel up to 90 minutes each way to placement and work shifts and weekends.

You will need to demonstrate an understanding of healthcare and the role of a Nursing Associate and show evidence of being an effective communicator with the people you care for, their families and carers, as well as your colleagues and superiors.

You will need to be prepared to work hard and undertake study in your own time, while on the programme; learning the fundamentals of exceptional care and developing your depth of knowledge around important aspects of both physical and mental health. In addition you will be taught many clinical skills which will be required when you become a registered Nursing Associate.

Interviews will hold week of the 9th December 2024, dates to be confirmed.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Mental Health Practitioner to work in the Home-Based Treatment Team (HBTT) in Kendal and South Lakes. The Home-Based Treatment Team is a highly specialist mental health team that cares for people who are experiencing acute episodes of mental illness or emotional distress. The service is an alternative to admission and offers intensive, short term, evidence-based support to service users and their carers in the community.

The HBTT works closely with the in-patient wards to support early discharges and with other parts of the mental health system as well as third sector providers, so effective communication skills and being a team player essential.

The post is a full-time, permanent post covering the service over 7 days per week working long days. The team covers Kendal and the South Lakes footprint. This is an essential car user post.

As a member of the clinical team, you would be working with a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Mental Health Nurses; Support Workers; Occupational Therapist; Psychologist and Consultant Psychiatrist. You will be joining a cohesive team where staff wellbeing is prioritised, and where high quality clinical and management supervision will be offered. You will be offered an individualised PDR so we can develop you further.

• You will provide a comprehensive assessment and triage service and, where necessary signposting or clear onward facilitation to a mental health pathway. Your referrers will mostly include IRS (initial response service), Police and Acute Hospital colleagues, trust employed mental health practitioners working in GP service. Service users will be triaged collaboratively and a decision will be made in consultation with the referrer and with the use of a clinical tool, within the response time required.

• This comprehensive, collaborative triage system will lead to comprehensive assessment clear onward facilitation of service users to the most appropriate care following assessment

• The post holder will provide evidence based mental health assessments and/or signposting to alternative service provision for people who present requiring a specialist urgent mental health assessment. The post holder may offer follow-up appointments within the agreed timescale for intervention as part of the on-going assessment process.

Specialty Doctor – Early Intervention Psychiatry, South Cumbria (10PA)

We are looking to recruit a Specialty Doctor in Early Intervention Psychiatry. This is a full time post working alongside our excellent teams in South Cumbria and is fixed term for a period of 12 months. The post is based in Kendal.

The service provides comprehensive assessment and management for people aged between 14 and 64 with a first presentation of psychotic symptoms (FEP) and at-risk mental state (ARMS).

The referrals to EIS teams for assessment are made directly by the GPs, or by the Single Point of access, Assessment and Treatment Teams, Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Teams and Tier 4 in-patient services. The referrals are discussed in the allocation meetings and then initial assessments for suitability of EIS, in the majority of cases, are done by case managers. Consultants are involved in initial assessment of complex cases or when a treatment has to be initiated. The consultants in the team do not provide care coordination for the service users; this is provided by other members of the multidisciplinary team.

There are no On Call requirements for this post. However, the postholder may be able to join the Middle Grade On Call rota, for which additional remuneration would be payable.

To be eligible to apply for this post, you must possess at least 3 year’s experience in psychiatry and be fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice. Ideally, you will be Section 12 Approved, or eligible for approval at the time of commencing employment.

This is an exciting opportunity for an appropriately qualified and experienced practitioner to develop leadership skills as a Deputy Team Lead within the Talking Therapies Leadership Team. The role, which is a full time post of 37.5 hours per week, offers the opportunity to gain considerable experience in service development, managerial, and additional supervisory skills.

You will join a friendly and supportive clinical and managerial leadership team that also includes a CBT lead, Counselling lead, PWP lead, consultant clinical lead, Strategic manager/training academy leads and Team Leads.

We are looking for applicants with substantial experience of working within the field of mental health and ideally some knowledge and experience of working within an IAPT service, working with complex client presentations, and providing formal clinical supervision / mentorship to qualified clinical staff.

You will have a proven track record of delivering high quality therapy and have excellent interpersonal qualities; time management skills; an ability to work autonomously and in a team; and an enthusiasm for working in an ever-developing IAPT environment.

The post-holder will work alongside the clinical and managerial leadership team, providing additional support to Team Leads and Clinicians alike within the respective teams. The post-holder will need to be available to work full-time Monday-Friday.

As part of our services across Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care System (ICS), we are excited to be able to implement Mental Health Practitioner roles across the Primary Care Networks to support GPs with ‘on the day’ Mental Health assessment and support for patients.

These are new roles designated under the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme for Primary Care (ARRS). The roles will provide an opportunity for better joint working across primary care and adult secondary care mental health systems and will make it easier for patients to obtain the help they need.

This is an exciting role for someone who is proactive and passionate about innovation and providing a high-quality holistic approach to the care of people who have been identified as in need of mental health support in a primary care setting.

The Primary Care Mental Health Practitioner role supports the delivery of primary care mental health services within a Lancashire and South Cumbria Primary Care Network (PCN). Line managed by Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust, the practitioner will be fully embedded as part of the PCN MDT working supporting the delivery of mental health care, they will also part of the Community Mental Health MDT PCN practices.

The key elements of this role are:
• Working effectively as a member of the clinical team in General Practice and local CMHT MDT.
• Improving the management of mental health conditions in Primary Care through working closely with General Practitioners and the practice team.
• Focus will generally be on patients whose needs cannot be met by IAPT services but whose presentation is below the threshold for secondary care.
• Co-working with the clinical team to assess patients and provide advice, support and interventions to patients; referring on to secondary care-based services or third sector services integrated within the mental health pathway, where appropriate.
• Be able to provide a “full package” approach (within scope of competencies) and consistency of care to patients within primary care

The post holder will promote the interests of service users and ensure that delegated nursing care is effectively implemented in a safe manner.
