As a Prison Services Clinical Pharmacist, you will provide clinical pharmacy services to patients within your allocated prison(s) and support the team of pharmacy technicians and assistants. You will be responsible for organising the pharmacy clinical service provision within the prison(s), planning your own work schedule as well as the wider teams work schedules. You will manage the day-to-day work of the pharmacy technicians within the team, supporting them clinically when on site. You will be making clinical judgments within your clinical ability where information is highly complex and the team need support.

You will undertake clinical visits within the prison, carrying out MUR’s, reviewing medication history of newly admitted offenders and proving clinics for patients to give advice and support on their prescribed medicines. You will be an active member of the clinical governance/medicines management committee(s), monitor prescribing trends, and assist in writing PGD’s when an appropriate use is identified. You will be required to train and educate nursing staff in the use of medicines and PGD’s to ensure safe, secure prescribing and handling of medicines is taking place within the prison(s).

· To organise on a weekly basis the pharmacy clinical service provision to the allocated prisons, planning your work and the work of others.

· To provide clinical services to the allocated prisons.

· To ensure you personally have high standards of work, both clinical and dispensing and follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) as directed by the Lead Prison Services Pharmacist.

· To work as a team with the pharmacy technician in the allocated prisons and to support this technician professionally when on site.

Specialty Doctor - Psychiatry (CESR development post)

Acute Inpatient wards – General Adult Psychiatry

BSMHFT is excited to present one of our recently developed progression posts for psychiatrists interested in working towards entry onto the Specialist Register via the CESR route.

The post on offer is to work at the Eden and George ward in Northcroft Hospital as an SAS doctor. This is within a 16-bedded male inpatient ward in George ward and 8-beds in Eden ward .

The acute inpatient unit offers excellent opportunity to manage male patients with an acute mental illness that are require hospitalisation . Working with a consultant psychiatrist, the day-to-day clinical management of 24 male patients will be most of the role. There will also be an opportunity to work closely with the locality home treatment team to manage better flow of patients through the acute pathway

We are looking for someone with enthusiasm and an appreciation of the opportunities and challenges of working within culturally diverse areas of Birmingham. You will have sound clinical skills and be approved, or eligible for approval, under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act. You will have full registration with the General Medical Council and experience of psychiatry at a Core Training grade. Excellent communication skills, team working skills and flexibility are essential. You will be encouraged to participate in continuing professional development, audit, research and teaching and partake in the monthly SAS academic programme at our excellent Uffculme training centre in Moseley

With hands on support from consultant colleagues, including portfolio development and exposure to a wide range of experience (including Psychotherapy) to aid competency achievement, this is a great opportunity for experienced psychiatrists, looking to make the next move in their career.

Deliver high quality clinical care within the Integrated Healthcare Service for the prison. This will include acute & primary care, long term conditions management, enhanced assessment and diagnostic intervention services and health promotion activities and be in line with the NHS Plan, public health indicators and National Service Frameworks. Demonstrate and provide robust expert clinical skills with a sound understanding of evidence-based nursing practice to provide a pro-active approach to ensure quality and outcome driven practice on a day-to-day basis. Support the development of evidence-based practice in the specialist field and to promote research as appropriate. ClinicalTo support the delivery of an effective integrated healthcare service clinical model. To manage a complex clinical caseload. Ensure all clinics and consultations are delivered in a clinically effective and timely way, in line with service needs. To be able to give intravenous injections, immunisations, and syringe pumps and infusions as necessary for the role of co-ordinating complex prisoners. Maintain systems for the collection of triage & allocation of referrals asappropriate and monitoring and supporting the auditing of quality andeffectiveness of service delivery. To maintain an effective case management service to ensure care and continuity of treatment is maintained throughout a patient care pathway whilst detained in prison.
