The successful candidate will undertake both trauma and elective work, joining along with 9x Consultants, 2x Associate Specialists, 9x Specialty Doctors, 3x Specialist Registrars, 4x Foundation Year 2's, 4x Trust Doctors , and 2x Foundation Year 1 Doctors.
The post holder will be expected to provide Registrar grade cover on a rotational shift basis throughout general surgery; and, participate in the on-call registrar rota. Expected to supervise the FY1s in service delivery, inpatients, and day services. And, provide a rapid response to A&E to facilitate the 4 hour trolley-wait target – during the on call shift will be available solely for emergency duties.
The department is a well-functioning and cohesive unit that provides essential services to the local population consistent with its location in a District General Hospital. There is an approximate 50:50 split between Trauma and Elective work. The hospital does not receive multiple or serious trauma cases as those are moved directly to the specialised trauma centres in the Trauma network. We see approximately 150 fracture necks of femur and the majority of our remaining trauma work comprises isolated femoral, tibial, forearm, upper arm and ankle fractures. The department refers suspected tumours to the Unit at RNOH, Stanmore. Spinal problems with neural issues are referred to the Royal London. We work closely with our Radiology colleagues through weekly MDTs on Wednesdays (1230).

The North Middlesex Hospital is in a state of rapid change with a brand new “purpose-built” Accident and Emergency Department which houses a Gynaecology Emergency Room. We have an active Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit/ Emergency Gynaecology Unit, with two trained nurse ultrasonographers plus 5 Consultant sessions, two ultrasound machines with pulsed colour Doppler facilities, and daily beta-hCG assays.

The hospital has been designated as a Cancer Unit within the “North Central” London Oncology network.

There are modern, up-to-date facilities for minimal access gynaecological surgery including video cameras, laparoscopes, hystero-resectoscopes, Novasure endometrial ablation. The success of the service has led to increased demand for minimal access surgery from GPs and patients. There are weekly out-patient hysteroscopy clinics.

There is at present one weekly gynaecological urodynamic session. Enfield and Haringey Health Authority employ a senior nurse incontinence advisor and there is an active incontinence support group with a senior physiotherapist.

The Transforming Care in Autism team aims to fulfil the remit of the national Transforming Care Programme in three inner London boroughs: Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark. The team is focused in working with autistic adults who do not have a learning disability diagnosis; a population who have so far been poorly served by the Transforming Care implementation and who often fall between services.

The Transforming Care in Autism (TCA) service was developed to meet the needs of autistic individuals at risk of admission to, or within, mainstream mental health services.

The team approach is two-fold: 1 Increase capability of mainstream adult mental health services to work with autistic adults through teaching and training; and 2. Provide a crisis response for named service users at risk of admission, working with the treating mental health teams.
• To assist Practitioner Psychologists in the delivery of specialist applied psychology service in the Transforming Care Autism Service.
• To carry out individual assessments and interventions as required by the service, under the close clinical and professional supervision of a qualified Practitioner Psychologist.
• To coordinate and deliver psychology groups when required.
• To assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of statistics, and development of audit and/or research projects, teaching and project work.
• To work at appropriate levels of independence, following clinical guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, while closely supervised and seeking help from clinical/professional supervisor or manager as required.

The neurodevelopmental pathway includes a wide range of services staffed by multi-disciplinary colleagues including psychiatrists, psychological
practitioners, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and nurses, supported by skilled administrative and managerial staff.

There is a commitment across the service to ongoing reflection and service development to ensure services are efficient and responsive. We have close links with Kings College and undertake research across the service, as well as offering support and teaching to their Masters and Doctorate courses.

KR 1 Clinical and Client Care
• To provide psychological assessments for clients, family members and others involved in the client’s care in the Adult Neurodevelopmental Pathway Services service under the close supervision of a Practitioner Psychologist including psychometric and neuropsychological assessments and treatment suitability assessments, in conjunction with multi-disciplinary colleagues.

This is a 6-month job opportunity funded by the Cancer Alliance. The role is critical in improving the accuracy and timeliness of tracking oncology treatment pathways, ensuring that patients receive necessary interventions promptly, and supporting the hospital in meeting national cancer performance targets, particularly the 62-day standard. The role involves facilitating the development, management, and administration of the weekly NMUH cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings. It is a national cancer standard that all new cases are discussed in a weekly MDT meeting to agree on a management plan.
• Collaborate with cancer services managers and key stakeholders, including cancer site lead consultants, surgeons, histopathologists, radiologists, cancer nurse specialists, physicians, oncologists, medical secretaries, admissions, medical records, and X-ray library.
• Facilitate and administer the weekly cancer MDT meetings.
• Ensure effective tracking of patient oncology pathways, with a focus on meeting national cancer performance standards. This role is essential in streamlining cancer treatment coordination and ensuring that patients are not subject to delays in their treatment plans.
• To ensure that the data for the NHS National Waiting Times Standards for the 14, 31 and 62 day targets is collected, monitored and performance managed prospectively for reporting on a weekly basis; liaising with MDT membership and the cancer managers to ensure compliance with the targets.
