We admit patients medically unwell patients direct from GP's, the Emergency Department and clinics. The patients are seen, assessed and treated, then transferred or discharged home.

Main duties:

1 Assist with the admission and discharge of patients - appropriate duties may include listing of clothing and assistance with dressing and undressing.

2 Assist with making occupied beds and strip and clean unoccupied beds, according to infection prevention policies.

3 Help patients to prepare for meals and assist in the service of meals. Serve refreshments and simple diets, where appropriate.

11 Care of sanitary equipment, including decontamination of baths, bins and commodes after use and the decontamination of beds, lockers and other ward equipment according to hospital policy.

12 Prepare, clean and tidy clinical rooms, clean nursing equipment and cupboards, excluding cupboards for storing controlled medicines.

13 Answer telephone, take, record and transmit messages to qualified staff.

14 Assist with keeping of routine records, e.g., weight charts and fluid balance charts.

15 Assist with movement of patients to other wards, clinics, departments or hospitals and undertake chaperon and escort duties.

16 Help patients with the care of their personal belongings.

17 Report to the person in charge, all observations made of the patient.

18 Carry out basic administrative tasks in the absence of the ward clerk, e.g., filing, ordering, checking stock levels.

Communication

1 Establish and maintain relationships with patients/clients, relatives, friends and staff, and participate in supporting patients.

2 Attend ward/department meetings as required, to ensure an awareness of developments within the work area.

3 Maintain an effective communication network; both verbal, written and electronic, keep registered practitioners informed.

4 Assist in maintaining, recording and storing information, including patient records, in line with Trust policy.

5 Meet and welcome patients/ relatives and other visitors and familiarise them with the environment.

6 Maintain good relationships with team members, and visitors to the ward/department.

Provide assistance when necessary.

7 Operate and input basic information to computerised systems within the unit.

Due to recent promotions within the Lancashire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme we are now looking to recruit 1 X Diabetic Eye Screener/Photographers to work in various community health centres across the East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen Area

As one of our screeners you will be joining a very busy, professional team of motivated and highly skilled individuals, you`ll run local clinics to see our patients and photograph their eyes to assess for diabetic retinopathy.

We`ll need you to be empathetic and able to screen patients on a daily basis. In this role, you`ll be supported whilst undertaking your training, but once that`s completed will be working largely unsupervised in a pressured environment, so a cool head is essential!

Who we are

Lancashire Diabetic Eye Screening serves a population of over 86,000 eligible diabetic patients and covers an area of 2800 square miles; we are a very busy, clinically focused team with the patient at the heart of all we do.

We operate from two bases, the main administrative and grading hub is based at the Holden Centre Barrowford, Nelson and we have a second satellite failsafe and grading office based at the Whitegate Drive Health Centre in Blackpool.

JOB SUMMARY

To provide a safe and secure Diabetic Eye Screening Service to the diabetic population in the Lancashire area, in accordance with National and company policies and procedures, with the aim of reducing new blindness due to diabetic retinopathy.

Work as a team member of the Lancashire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme

Delivering diabetic eye screening to eligible clients aged 12 and over across the Lancashire programme from community locations, which includes pre-screening patients, eye drop instillation and carrying out digital photography

Provide assistance as required in clerical tasks at the grading centre

MAIN DUTIES
1. Work independently and be responsible for managing own workload, time and priorities.

Screening/Digital photography
1. Deliver digital photographic retinal screening to patients with diabetes aged 12 and over registered with an East Lancashire General Practice.

3. Install mobile equipment at designated screening location in accordance with proper and safe use, identified protocols and the operational policies of both the Lancashire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme and of the designated screening location.
4. Set up the allocated room(s) as required and in accordance with proper and safe use, identified protocols and the operational policies of both the Lancashire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme and of the designated screening location.
5. Conduct Diabetic Eye Screening sessions in accordance with proper and safe practice, national standards, and identified protocols and with the operational policies of both the Lancashire Diabetic Eye Screening Programme and National policies and procedures.
6. Uninstall mobile equipment and leave allocated room(s) in a proper and safe condition as according to local protocols and operational policies.
7. Explain the screening procedure to each patient according to National and local policy and procedures
8. Confirm and record electronically patients’ identity and demographic information
9. Obtain and record electronically appropriate consent to screening and information sharing, according to National and local policy and procedures
10. Ascertain that the patient is suitable for digital photographic screening in accordance with protocols. Record this information electronically.

12. Perform visual acuity testing protocols and record the results electronically, according to National and local policy and procedures.
13. Explaining possible side effects to the patient of the Tropicamide 1% eye drops and give leaflet to patient. Ask patient if they have had a contra-indication to eye drops in the past, according to National and local policy and procedures
14. Explain driving policy to patients before instilling eye drops, according to National and local policy and procedures.
15. Instil mydriatic eye-drops according to National and local policy and procedures, being aware of contra-indications and possible side-effects, and record relevant information electronically.
16. Capture digital retinal images according to National and local policy and procedures. Ensure images are correctly stored and labelled. Record additional relevant information electronically and/or on paper.
17. To triage digital images according to National and local policy and procedures.

This is a great opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician who is clinically experienced or a Pharmacy Technician who is just starting out in their career and wanting to enhance their clinical skills, looking to work in patient facing role. It is also a viable opportunity for people looking for some flexibility as our Pharmacy AMU teamwork shift patterns. The current hours (currently 8am – 7pm, 365 days per year) using our proven model of shift working. Team members work a standard 37.5-hour week comprising an average of only between three and five shifts over 7 days (7.5 - 10 hours per shift), some of which qualify for unsocial hours pay. As a Payroll Operations Manager, you will lead, co-ordinate and manage the Payroll Team Leaders ensuring the delivery of the organisation’s contractual commitments to promised quality/timescales and in line with professional standards, national policy and frameworks.

You will work under the direction of the Payroll Client managers and act as operational lead in co-ordinating and planning the work activities and recruitment across the department and undertaking the operational management for tasks to given client groups whilst working to specified timetables.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a unique band 4 Registered Nursing Associate working in Homeless Health Outreach in Blackburn with Darwen. The successful candidate will work from satellite spaces and connect within community venues (e.g. GP surgeries, hostels, pharmacies) where existing and potential service users live or are based. The Registered Nursing Associate will work closely with the Senior Staff Nurse and support with any continuous treatment as documented within care plans. The Registered Nursing Associate will work within their scope of practice and competence and you will receive regular management and clinical supervision by the Senior Staff Nurse throughout your secondment.

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is looking to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a subspecialty interest in Hand & Wrist surgery.

The surgeon will need to be fellowship trained and fully competent in managing all aspects of hand & wrist surgery. The surgeon will help with the Orthopaedic on-call Consultant rota which is 1:8 managing all routine trauma. The surgeon will help to further expand our elective surgical services at Burnley General Hospital whilst also contributing in managing complex trauma patients at Royal Blackburn Hospital.

This post is subject to the New Consultant Contract 2003.

The appointee will be required to live within 10 miles or 30 minutes travel time by car of the relevant Trust Hospital base. The Trust will reimburse certain expenses relating to removal and relocation when required; the expenses refunded shall reflect the actual costs involved but will not exceed £8,000.
