An opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) position for applicants with an interest in working with people with a range of mental health conditions at The Brooker Centre. The Brooker Centre is a mental health hospital with two wards. - Bridge ward is a male acute ward and Weaver Ward is a female acute ward.

The successful applicant will be working as a key member of the occupational therapy service on Weaver Ward. We are looking for self-motivated and caring individuals who can facilitate group activities, 1:1 sessions and assist the qualified occupational therapy staff as required. Under the direct or indirect Clinical Supervision of a Qualified Occupational Therapist you will undertake the following duties:

1. To support, with direction, Service Users’ with activities throughout the therapeutic day. This will be under the supervision of senior Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Psychological Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists.

4. Assist in planning and facilitate both individual and group work with Service Users and take an active role in implementing agreed plans/tasks in familiar or defined contexts.

5. To support the Service Users’ to engage with their Shared Activity Planner and support the Service Users’ to engage in their choice of activity. There is an expectation to engage with service users on enhanced observations as part of their recovery journey

6. Be fully involved in The Occupational Therapy Process to ensure Service Users increase their independence and well being through skill and knowledge development and apply clinical reasoning to this approach.

7. Participate in the provision of a varied and interesting range of timetabled activities that support Service Users to achieve identified goals.

8. Exercise initiative and independence in carrying out delegated activities at a Professional level.

9. Be aware of, and apply, the principle of risk assessment and management to all aspects of clinical work including, where appropriate, the provision of information to The Multi Disciplinary Team.

10. Maintain the health, safety and security of others and contribute to and comply with risk assessment.

11. To contribute to formal Occupational Therapy record keeping and reports and provide feedback on Service Users occupational functioning. Assist in the development of treatment and care plans where appropriate

13. Work closely with The Multi Disciplinary Team at all times and involve Nursing Staff and Support workers fully in activity sessions.

16. Participate in the management of incidents in line with The Trusts Policy and Procedure.

Mental Health Care

These clinical divisions provide mental health, brain injury, addiction and child and adolescent mental health services in different areas across Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens and Warrington. We are looking for nursing and health care assistants for our inpatient wards. Posts will be based in: complex care, older people’s services, adult acute mental health, specialist and rehabilitation wards.

Secure Care

This clinical division is responsible for providing specialised mental health and learning disability services in low, medium and high secure settings for service users with a primary classification of mental illness, and personality disorders. Our nursing assistants must be able to demonstrate compassion and empathy to our patients, working to improve the quality of care within a secure/forensic environment. In this division you’ll gain experience in forensic environments.

The medium secure unit provides services for people with learning disabilities too. Here we provide services that offer people progress through pathways to more independent community living. Our service users typically have a range of complex needs, require support in medium and low secure services, and may have been in contact with the Ministry of Justice.

Byron ward is an assessment and treatment facility for adults with learning disability and or autism who require specialist support. The aim is to understand functions of behaviours and access mental health which cannot be carried out within the community. The team’s vision is to support service users through assessment, engagement and activity to achieve a timely discharge.

Community Care

This clinical division delivers community health services to people in their own homes, health centres and clinics, NHS walk-In centres and our older adults intermediate care ward at Aintree University Hospital site.

As well as the many community nursing services, this division delivers specialist dental health care, therapies, sexual health, medicines management and nutrition and dietetics services. Our teams work closely with GPs and other health and social care services to ensure patients are cared for with the best support, in or closerto their home.

Our Halton Mental Health Recovery Team are looking to recruit a band 6 Senior Nurse Practitioner full time on a permanent contract. We are a supportive, and dedicated team and there will be opportunities for professional development within the role.

Ensure service users’ finances, money and valuables are cared for in
accordance with Trust Financial Policies and Codes of Practice.

Assist in the maintenance and updating of the unit’s equipment
inventories and service schedules. Ensure regular servicing, maintenance, repair or replacement as required adhering to Health & Safety, COSHH and Medical Devices Agency regulations.

Ensure effective processes of communication are established, maintained and regularly evaluated within designated team.

Assist in the investigation of complaints and incidents in accordance

Participate in Serious Untoward Incident investigations/reviews as

Co-ordinate utilities, equipment and services and report/refer issues to
