The post holder is an autonomous specialist practitioner responsible for providing professional management of patients as part of the Sleep/NIV service. The post holder is expected to promote excellent standards of care for patients by contributing to the future developments of the service.

The post-holder will support the Ward Sisters/Charge Nurses, Senior Matron and Matron for the respiratory wards and outpatient departments promoting excellence in care to maintain and improve clinical standards. The post-holder will ensure that all patients are treated with compassion, dignity and respect, placing value on the diversity of the local community and beyond.

They will promote best practice in the prevention of infection through ensuring a clean and safe environment, and that clinical practices are in accordance with Trust Policy and best practice guidelines to minimise the risk of infection.

The post-holder will work with the multi-professional respiratory team in the implementation and delivery of an innovative and evidence-based service that addresses the needs of patients with acute or chronic respiratory/sleep disorders and their carer’s.

· Line manages Sleep/NIV associate practitioners Developing a learning culture and facilitate interdisciplinary learning across respiratory medicine

· Take responsibility for the day-to-day management of respiratory /sleep/NIV patients within resource limitations.

· Is an advanced autonomous practitioner who undertakes a comprehensive assessment of all patients referred to respiratory/sleep medicine from both outpatinet and inpatient settings. Includes assessments of medical, functional, social and mental status.

· Develops a care plan and undertakes and co-ordinates its implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

· Is an autonomous specialist practitioner working within defined protocols, delivering evidence based care to a variety of patients with respiratory/sleep conditions.

· Is highly competent to an advanced level in the use/application of specialised respiratory equipment, including non-invasive ventilation, continuous positive airway pressure.

· Is proactively involved with the coordination and management of patients requiring investigation and subsequent treatment. Uses results from medical assessment tools such as multidisciplinary notes, x-rays, arterial and capillary blood gases, sputum cultures, blood tests and sleep studies to help inform clinical decision-making.

Three exciting new leadership opportunities have arisen for inspirational and experienced consultants who want to help shape the education and training of current and future doctors in one of the largest trusts in the country. The Medical Education Department is offering three Care Group Directors of Medical Education roles which will attract 4 PAs that will form part of a 10PA consultant role (specialty – see below).

Post holders will support the Director of Medical Education and will each hold a specific portfolio of work aligned to the Trust’s Care Groups and overseeing and coordinating work around the education and training of medical students and junior doctors at all levels. You will work collaboratively at Care Group Associate Medical Director and managing director level. This post would be suitable for a highly motivated dietitian who already has knowledge and experience of working with patients with a diverse adult clinical caseload in surgical and critical care settings. The QEQM Hospital Acute Medical unit comprises two short-stay Acute Medical Units (A & B), adjacent to the Same Day Emergency Care Unit. Our newly built ‘Rapid Assessment & Majors’ area within the ED footprint serves as an ED – Acute care interface for medical patients, overseen by the ED in-reach Acute physician and Geriatric / Frailty Team. There will be a contribution to the on-call weekday Rota of approximately 1:10 weekday (Category A = 5%) and moving forward a weekend commitment of around 1 in 18 with zero days off in lieu of working a weekend.

A Vacancy at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust.


This is a 10 PA substantive Consultant post in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with a special interest in high risk Obstetrics or maternal medicine. It is a replacement post for QEQM and forms part of our expansion in consultant numbers to improve services for our women and babies. The post-holder will need to demonstrate competence in core Obstetrics and Gynaecology to enable he/she to fulfil the role of a general obstetrician and gynaecologist. It would be an advantage to have skills in intermediate or advanced obstetric scanning. The consultant will be expected to participate in Intrapartum and elective Obstetrics to ensure provision of the hours of consultant presence as required by the RCOG. The post is for up to 12 months initially. There is funding and RCOG approval for this post to be substantive

There will be a regular on call session (1 in 15) as well as regular antenatal clinics and caesarean lists. There is a 1 in 15 on call commitment for gynaecology and elective gynaecology work is also available. Your job plan will contain 10 Programmed Activities per week consisting of 8 direct clinical care PA’s and 2 supporting professional activity PA’s. The precise length of Programmed Activities may vary from week to week around the average assessment set out in the Job Plan.
