We are seeking a well-motivated Support Practitioners to join our outstanding service within the Intensive Support Team (Child and Adolescent Mental Health). These posts will support to children and young people with mental health difficulties within East Lancashire.

You will assist in delivering therapeutic care to children/young people under the direct supervision of qualified staff as well as delivering some of your role by call handling telephone calls from young people, families and referrers. Your main aim will be to provide care to families and young people with severe and complex mental health.

To assist with the mental health assessment of children and young people who have been admitted to the wards or are in A&E following a suicide attempt or self harming behaviours on the self harm rota, and assist in the follow up as needed with other professionals involved in the initial assessment.

Applications are invited for the role of Senior level (ST6-7 or post CCT) Clinical Fellow in Women's Health to commence as soon as possible for a fixed term period of 6 months.

The post is primarily based at Burnley General Hospital There is an on call commitment on the 2nd on call rota which has a 1 in 9 frequency, this is a full shift rota including blocks of nights. Occasionally, the postholder will be expected to deliver outpatient clinics and gynaecology ward cover to the Royal Blackburn Hospital (Monday to Friday only). We also provide outpatient services to Rossendale Hospital, 8 miles away.

The Lancashire Womens & Newborn Centre is located on the Burnley General site and we provide satellite clinics across East Lancashire to ensure ease of access for the local population. We provide a full range of clinics in both obstetrics and gynaecology and all members of the team have a sub speciality interest. We have an outstanding reputation as a training unit.

Candidates must have full registration with the GMC and meet all the necessary requirements of the person specification.


1. The postholder will carry out a range of duties covering many aspects of Women’s Health. These include covering labour ward, antenatal ward and postnatal ward, elective caesarean section lists, the emergency gynaecology and Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit, working in antenatal and gynaecology outpatients, and elective and emergency gynaecology theatre lists. All duties will be undertaken with suitable senior support.
2. There is an on call commitment on the 2ndon call rota. This is a full shift rota including blocks of nights. The postholder will be the ‘senior registrar’ during on call shifts, working alongside a more junior registrar and 2 SHOs. There are 2 on call consultants (one for obstetrics and one for gynaecology) who provide support from home out of hours.
3. The postholder will be expected to provide active senior medical input into the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care of women in the hospital.
4. The postholder will also be expected to taken an active role in management of acute gynaecological admissions and gynaecological emergencies.
5. The postholder will be expected to demonstrate excellent medical leadership, communication and multidisciplinary team working.
6. We have ample opportunities for the postholder to develop their own skills and special interests, and are keen to support the candidate in studying towards ATSMs/SITMs and/or completing CESR.

The Obstetrics and Gynaecology unit comprises a high-risk Birth suite with 20 rooms, antenatal and postnatal wards, a maternity triage, an antenatal day unit, 3 Obstetric theatres, a dedicated gynaecology ward, and a 7-day gynaecology assessment and early pregnancy assessment unit. There is an alongside midwifery-led birth centre. There are day-case and inpatient gynaecology theatre sessions running daily (often 2 or 3 theatre lists running concurrently).

Our maternity service has recently been rated ‘good’ by the CQC.

Outpatient activity includes, but is not limited to: general gynaecology, colposcopy, hysteroscopy, urogynaecology, fertility and recurrent miscarriage.

We have a large fetal medicine unit staffed by 4 consultants. We have a strong working relationship with our colleagues in our Level 3 neonatal unit.

We are a BSGE accredited centre for endometriosis.

There are 25 Consultants in post.

Other staff include: 3 specialty doctors/Obstetric and Gynaecology speciality trainees/Obstetric and Gynaecology locally employed doctors (JCFs and SCFs)/Foundation doctors

The post holderwill haveownershipandresponsibilityfor theco-ordinationand collationofdataat ELHT together with expert colleagues in the maternity and neonatology Directorates, including data analysts, Local maternity and neonatology system (LMNS) and other external agencies as and when required.

As an IT ambassador for the Midwifery profession, the post holder will ensure clinical practice is supported by digital technology, to meet the required professional standards.



The post holder will be accountable for their own professional actions and be a lead specialist for perinatal digital IT acting within clearly defined policies/procedures and codes of conduct including the NMC code and Trust policy.

Worktowardstheambitions, pillars and themesreflected within the national BetterBirths, Ockenden and three delivery plan reports, to ensure current evaluations within maternityITsystems are prevalent aligned with all recommendations.



Practiceinaccordance withtheNMCCode.



Maintain competencies relating to digital leadership by attending regular updates such as local user group initiatives and the national Digital Midwives Expert Reference Group.



Provide professionalleadership including motivation of staff regarding the use ofdigital technology.



Ensure the relevant data is captured and maintained as a collaborative approachwith the wider Multidisciplinary team to meet both National and local standards.



Provide clinical leadership and be a role model to the midwifery team by demonstrating clinical excellence within midwifery practice as an expert practitioner.

Be accountable for own professional practice and provide a resource on clinical and professional issues ensuring staff are afforded access to development opportunities.
