Applications are invited for a Lead Pharmacist - Palliative and End of Life Care.

Working within the Havens Hospices Care settings and Southend Site pharmacy, you will lead the Palliative and End of Life pharmacy service in collaboration with the senior managers and clinical collegues from both Havens Hopices and the MSE Pharmacy Oncology team.

You will be responsible for supporting the medicines management agenda within Havens Hospices Care settings, providing a comprehensive clinical service for both adult and children & young people’s inpatient services.

You will support the Southend site oncology service with clinical pharmacy activity e.g. chemotherapy prescription verification.

You will need to be an experienced clinical pharmacist, with palliative, end of life and (preferably)oncology expertise, an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal/relationship building skills, have good service delivery and management experience, and a proven track record of delivering change within dynamic environments.

Ideally you will be a qualified independent prescriber.

We are looking for a highly motivated, innovative and dynamic individual who will develop and evolve this newly created post.

Main duties:
• To provide, with the support of senior colleagues, the delivery of a medicines optimisation and clinical pharmacy service to all areas within Havens Hospices; be a proactive and engaged member of Havens Hospices Medicines Management team.
• Closely liaise with multidisciplinary colleagues to facilitate a co-ordinated approach to palliative and end of life drug monitoring and control in line with formulary adherence.throughout the organisation.
• Be the point of contact for all hospice staff to aid in medicines-related problem solving and ensure supplies of end-of-life medicines.
• Monitor drug expenditure within specialty, produce budget statements and drug usage reports, interpret and provide analysis and recommendations.
• Develop treatment guidelines with clinicians to promote evidence-based, cost-effective prescribing, considering all relevant local and national policies and procedures.
• Act as an independent prescriber and prescribe as appropriate for patients within designated area of competence.

What skills and experience we're looking for

The Board of Trustees holds the CEO, executive team and academy leaders to account to successfully deliver against the Trust’s mission and strategic plan. What the school offers its staff

Terms of the Appointment:

These roles are unremunerated, but reasonable, pre-agreed travel expenses will be reimbursed. There are 6 Board meetings held in person in the Midlands or Northwest and each member of the Board will to be a member of at least one sub-committee, (these meetings are currently held remotely). The total time commitment is expected to be approximately 8-10 days per year.

There will be additional induction and training commitments in the first year of term. The appointment is for an initial four-year term, which can be renewed at the discretion of the Board.

Finance and Audit Committee meetings take place remotely the week before the Board meetings. Although there are nominated members of the finance and audit committees, everybody is invited to attend.

Education and Standards committee meetings take place just before Board meetings and all Trustees attend.

The Haematology Laboratory at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a well-organised and highly motivated Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly and dedicated Haematology & Blood Transfusion team. Our services are based over two acute hospital sites at Conquest Hospital, Hastings and Eastbourne District General Hospital - you will be based at Conquest, Hastings although some cross-site working is required.

In return, the Trust is committed to the personal and professional development of its staff at all levels.

The Department is fully automated in its analytical platform for Blood Transfusion (Ortho Vision), Coagulation (Sysmex CN6000), Special Haematology (BioRad Variant II) and Haematology (Sysmex XN1000/2000), and uses the iLab/Apex Laboratory Information system. LIMS is due to be replaced in 2026 with Winpath Enterprise.

Full 24/ hour, 7 days a week acute services are operated at both acute hospital sites. Candidates will be required to participate in the full shift rota, covering weekdays, nights and weekends after suitable training and assessment.

Job Purpose

The Chief Information Officer (CIO) will play a pivotal role in the Group’s leadership team. They will provide vision, professional leadership and strategic direction to achieve the Group’s aims and improvements in quality, efficiency and effectiveness.



The CIO reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
