The successful candidate will join the Paediatric 14 WTE Middle Grade on-call rota, where you will rotate through the general paediatric ward, Paediatric assessment unit, NICU and outpatient clinics during the working day. On-call cover includes evenings, nights and weekends which are covered by two Consultants, two ST4-8 Drs, two SHOs and 1-2 Foundation year 1 Doctors. One Consultant, Registrar, SHO and FY1 will cover Skylark and PAU and a separate Consultant, Registrar & SHO will cover NICU, labour ward and postnatal wards. Attendance at morning and evening handover is expected. The Consultants operate a Paediatrician and Neonatal Consultant of the week rota for the Childrens & NICU wards. Following the weekend on-call commencing Friday 1 pm, all general paediatric admissions are admitted under the duty paediatrician and all NICU admissions are admitted under the duty NICU Consultant of the week. The Paediatrician / NICU Consultant of the week is responsible for the emergency on-call during the week, within daytime hours, with out of hours on-calls shared amongst the consultant colleagues. All our rotas are EWTD and new junior doctor contract compliant. The Trust recognises the importance of continuing medical education, and the budget funded by the Trust is held by the Medical Director. Excellent, teaching and education and library services are provided with an active Postgraduate Medical Centre. A new purpose-built Library and Education Centre with a Clinical Skills Laboratory is available to further enhance the teaching facilities. Protected teaching is provided on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday lunchtimes. A regular teaching programme including induction for junior doctors is in operation. Final year medical students are allocated to the Department from Leicester University for their training. Regular supervision and workplace-based assessments for junior doctors are in place and research and audit is supported by an active Clinical Governance Support Unit.
