In neonates, first line medical cover is provided by 2 specialist trainees in RCPCH approved posts recognised for training by the Health Education North East, 2 neonatal trust grade doctors and four Advanced Neonatal Nurses Practitioners on the same rota. Tier 2 support is provided by 5 advanced neonatal nurse practitioners working at middlegrade level. This role is suitable for applicants post foundation at ST1/2/3 level with experience working clinically within the NHS. It is ideally suited to candidates wishing to work in a large teaching hospital which provides many specialist services and is ideal for anyone wishing to pursue a career in paediatrics or neonatal medicine. You will also be required to assist in preparing discharge letters, Initiation/change of treatment and discussions with relatives. Ward management- assist in wards rounds and attending to emergency calls. Responsibilities include routine examination of the newborn and care of babies in the neonatal unit, attending at risk deliveries and on the post-natal wards. There will be adequate support and supervision from middle grade doctors and consultants. The post holder will participate in the tier 1 on call rota. When on-call you will be expected to carry the emergency bleep and attend to calls.

Work closely with other members of the Executive team to provide constructive challenge and sustainable solutions Provide board level contribution to the strategic and operational development and management of the Company. The post is suitable for doctors who have completed IMT training (or equivalent). It would be particularly suitable for doctors who may wish to go on to apply for higher training in nephrology. Opportunities will be available to participate in the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and simulation training. There are also opportunities to participate in research, quality improvement processes and to gain experience in management and clinical leadership depending on interests and experience. On-call commitments may vary according to the post and the requirements/experience of the post holder. The post is for a minimum of six months with options to extend by mutual agreement. This posts is not recognized for training by the Postgraduate Dean. Although the post is not recognized for training, trainees will be allocated to a Clinical Supervisor and have the opportunity for supervised learning and feedback. Please see attached Job description for full duties The Speciality Doctor will be working alongside the specialist trainees on a second on call rota, with direct and indirect supervision from consultants in hours and indirect supervision out of hours. They will cover on calls, and work in consultant led theatres, antenatal clinics and gynaecological clinics. Depending on experience and career desires there may be an opportunity to further develop their skills in specialist areas.
