The post will be integrated into the sexual health service and as such the post holder will be required to provide evidence based specialist sexual health care for patients attending sexual health clinics. The integrated specialist sexual health service includes genitourinary medicine (GUM), contraceptive and reproductive healthcare (CRHC), outreach services and designated young peoples services. The post holder must be prepared to work in clinics and other settings including outreach as required. May be required to work some unsocial hours, including Saturdays. You will assist with the day to day running of the Emergency Department, ensuring the highest possible quality of care is delivered to patients, relatives and carers who attend. You will provide Assessment, care and treatment to all patients who present to the Alexandra Emergency Department. You will support the band 7 in their responsibility for ensuring and maintaining of a clinical environment in which care and compassion is constantly demonstrated seven days, twenty four hour service. You will maintain develop your own professional development including attending all statutory, mandatory and trust specific training. You will use effective communication skills of negotiation, persuasion and empathy to enable timely and effective communication with your own staff and the wider MDT team and other agencies.

Role Details You will develop, implement and evaluate the programmes of care including discharge planning for each patient. You will safeguard vulnerable adults. You will participate in preceptorship programmes as appropriate and act as a facilitator / mentor / preceptor / role model to less experienced staff. You will educate patients and their careers as required where a need has been identified, including information on a adopting a healthier lifestyle. You will complete patient documentation correctly. You will contribute to the setting and monitoring of measurable standards of care and be accountable for maintaining standards. You will participate in handling complaints in accordance with Trust policy. You will maintain a safe clean ward environment and ensure all appropriate general risk assessments are carried out within 24 hours of admission document and plan care accordingly e.g. manual handling, pressure risks, slips trips and falls, nutrition, safeguarding. You will show an awareness of budgeting, exercising care and economy in the ordering and use of equipment. You will assist in the assessment of staffing requirements, report problems to the appropriate manager. In the absence of a more senior member of staff and as part of your development programme, with support, will be able to undertake clinical / shift management within the department.

1. Assume the role of Facilitator to the Emergency Department teams/staff providing support for continuing clinical and professional development in the work place. 2. Be responsible for the continuing development in line with national Guidance of competency-based frameworks for Registered Nurses, Health Care Assistants, monitoring and evaluating its effectiveness. 3. Through this process of work-based competencies, the post holder will provide continuing support to all Bands of clinical staff in their delivery of nursing care in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team. 4. Through working in all areas of the department support and supervise Emergency Department staff/teams to assess, develop, implement and evaluate standards/programmes of care, providing advice and support to develop methods to evaluate care delivered where required. 5. To ensure that whilst training BSGE log book requirements are kept in a timely manner and trainer is aware of ongoing training needs. To be conversant and comply with trust policies and regulations ensure attendance at trust mandatory training sessions and those deemed necessary to role. To Lead Hysteroscopy Nurse when further competency / development is required. To participate in personal / career development plan to maintain and develop attitudes, skills and knowledge facilitating personal and professional growth in order to maximise contribution to and quality of service delivery. To support the personal and professional growth of new, registered and non registered staff, and learners in order to maximise their contribution to and quality of service delivery. To participate fully in the implementation of staff personal development plans to facilitate on going development. 4. Quality / Research and Development To contribute to the audit of hysteroscopy services and develop a working knowledge of reporting system and quality initiatives within field of Hysteroscopy. Demonstrate research awareness and ability to participate in and regularly support on going research in nursing / medical practice, clinical trials, medical research and equipment testing. To work within an ethical and legal framework utilising the NMC code of professional conduct, defined policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the department / organisation to promote safe and effective evidence based practice and contribute to quality improvement. Report and investigate when delegated incidents in relation to Hysteroscopy nurse role using the DATIX reporting system. 5. Professional To maintain a professional attitude at all times developing the role of the nurse in the best interest of the patient and profession in accordance with Nursing & Midwifery Council Standards and Guidelines. To be aware of personal and professional development. To attend courses and conferences as recommended and approved by the Head of Maternity & Gynaecology. Participate in research projects where appropriate, report findings within a multidisciplinary framework. Implement research where appropriate. 6. Personnel. Participate in devising induction programmes for newly appointed staff. To assist the Department manager in monitoring staff performance when requested. To assist the departmental manager / lead colposcopy nurse in the maintenance of day to day discipline within the department. To inform the departmental manager / responsible consultant of staff failing to meet the required standard of performance, and taking appropriate action where required. The successful candidate will be expected to work within multi-disciplinary teams in providing high quality clinical care. It is anticipated work will be undertaken on three sites and closer to the patients home. The Trust is seeking to extend services to GP surgeries/health centres etc and job plans may be revised in due course. The post-holder will provide support to the A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely appropriate care and patient flow through the hospital. The post-holder will provide consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care. The post-holder will attend cross county and cross site meetings.
