NNL are looking to recruit a team of Health Physics monitors to carry out Routine and Non Routine Operations on the Windscale site on Sellafield. They will be expected to cover both facilities on the site as required, offering Health Physics support.

Main Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities for Health Physics Monitor:

• Provide advice in the area of radiological protection, referring upwards where appropriate and as agreed.
• Produce survey sheets, reports, presentations and data in an understandable manner in order to support NNL management.
• Work with other specialists (e.g. Advisors and Analysts) to share findings and identify trends to develop a holistic picture of issues, concerns, good practice and areas for improvement in EHSS&Q culture and performance.
• Ensure that the specialist advice provided is proportionate and ensures compliance with NNL and external requirements.
• To follow through on advice provided, to ensure that it is implemented in a way that provides a suitable solution to the original problem identified.
• Ensure you attend all training courses to ensure you maintain a high standard within the role of Health Physics monitor.
• Provide an emergency response for Health Physics matters.
• Report issues and behaviours which cause concern in the workplace.

Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria for Health Physics Monitor:

• City and Guilds Level 1 in Radiation Protection or NVQ Level 2 in Radiation Protection.
• Experience working as a Health Physics monitor in a Nuclear facility.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of Ionising Radiation Regulations 2017,Environmental Permitting Regulations (amended) 2011 & Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
• Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years' worth of UK residency).

Desirable Criteria for Health Physics Monitor:

• IOSH working safely.
• Experience of NNL Central Lab , Windscale Operations or equivalent SL plant.
• Good influencing, presentational and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and the ability to interpret regulations.

Chaperoning and assisting clinicians with examination and procedures for patients. Speculum examination to obtain samples e.g. for cervical smear taking (cervical cytology), trichomonas test of cure, gonorrhoea culture. Taking genital samples. Care of HIV outpatients including blood taking, cervical smear taking, recording vital signs and physical details, measuring BMD using the heel scanner. . Completing HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis follow up consultations. Intramuscular injections. Be competent in giving Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B and HPV vaccines according to existing PCN SOP and national guidelines. Administer medicine within the limitations of the role, in line with scope of practice in accordance with NMC Code and PCN policy. This will include the administration of oral, intramuscular, topical and subdermal medication when deemed competent. To competently administer treatment for a range of sexually transmitted infections under PSD according to PCN and national guidelines. Administer medications in line with PCN medicine management policy. Demonstrate the ability to recognise the effects of medicines, side effects, drug sensitivity, contraindications adverse reactions and allergies. Responsible for contributing to the clinical environment which promotes a positive patient experience and care, promoting privacy and dignity at all times. Educate patients and families about sexual health & HIV related illness, conditions and medication under the direct / indirect supervision of the Registered Nurse. Training and Education Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development. Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work.
