Reporting to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), the Deputy Medical Director for Quality & Governance (DMD-QG) will lead a number of Trust-wide strategic priorities and quality improvement programmes as determined by the CMO. They will also take the overall medical leadership role in the Trust in relation to Care Quality, including the three key domains of safety, clinical effectiveness and patient experience.
The DMD-QG, along with the DMD for Professional Standards (DMD-PS), will support the CMO in all matters related to medical and dental professional standards.
The DMD-QG will provide medical leadership to the Clinical Risk Manager for serious incidents/matters relating to PSIRF and inquests. They will also be the Named Adult Safeguarding lead for the Trust.
The DMD-QG, along with the DMD for Professional Standards, will deputise for the Chief Medical Officer in his/her absence, including taking the role of Medical Co-ordinator in the event of a Major Incident.
The DMD-QG will support the Chief Medical Officer with the integration of clinical services and processes across North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust (NWAFT).
The DMD-QG will chair committees in relation to his/her role and represent the CMO/Trust at internal and external meetings as required.
The Deputy Medical Director for Quality & Governance will be appointed by the Chief Medical Officer and the Chief Nurse and will be accountable to the Chief Medical Officer for the DMD element of his/her role.
The appointment will be subject to the terms and conditions of the new Consultant Contract. The initial appointment is for 3 years and is subject to a satisfactory annual performance review. The post-holder will receive a formal performance review after the first 6 months and then have annual PDRs undertaken by the Chief Medical Officer; this will be separate from and in addition to their annual appraisal.
The post holder is expected to commit to 5 Programmed Activities within office hours to effectively deliver the DMD-QG role. The Consultant in the chosen speciality role will comprise 5 programmed activities. Upon successful appointment, we will work with you to shape the ideal job plan and review it with you after three months and then annually so you can keep the perfect fit. The Chief Medical Officer is responsible for the review of the job plan in conjunction with the post holder.
