Who We Are
Denver's Department of Public Health and Environment (DDPHE) is dedicated to advancing Denver's environmental and public health goals. DDPHE works collaboratively with city, state and community partners to conduct education, community engagement, and enforcement to promote healthy people, healthy pets, and a sustainable environment. DDPHE oversees a number of services related to public health and the environment and is comprised of six divisions: Division of Shared Services and Business Operations; Community & Behavioral Health; Public Health Investigations; Denver Animal Protection; the Office of Medical Examiner; and Environmental Quality. What We Offer
The City and County of Denver offers a competitive pay rate commensurate with education. All City and County of Denver emerging talent positions are supported by a trained hiring manager and encouraged to attend up to 4 sessions of professional development each season (Winter/Spring, Summer and Fall). You will be onboarded with a cohort of peers to begin to help you develop your network across the City and so you can go through similar programming throughout your time at the City.
What You’ll Do
As an intern you will get to experience the following:
- Assist individuals and communities in navigating health services such as supporting client registration and screenings.
- Keep routine records, complete consent forms, and perform administrative duties such as data entry, email notifications, and additional tasks relevant to community navigation.
- Provide culturally and linguistically appropriate information by providing interpretation and translation as needed for effective community communication.
- Provide health education and accurate information about vaccines and other relevant topics, tailored to the specific needs of the community.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and help as needed, fostering a seamless integration of community navigation within healthcare services.
- Ensure Compliance with standard safety rules and procedures, regulatory standards, operational processes, and other guiding professional practices.
- Along with all department staff, this position will actively participate on an emergency preparedness and response team to support DDPHE’s responsibilities outlined in the City’s Emergency Operations Plan. This may require being ‘on-call’ from time to time to help respond to emergencies. Additional training commensurate with assigned duties will be provided.

About You
What You’ll Bring
Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:
- Pursing coursework in a field of study related to health, human services, social sciences, or other related fields
- Demonstrated commitment to serving the community, especially the newcomer community
- Spanish verbal communication skills preferred
Minimum Qualifications
- Education Requirement: Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor’s, or higher degree in, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion).
- Experience: None
- Education and Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted.
- License/Certification Requirement: By position, may require a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment

Location
This position will be predominantly in person on site at Community Health sites across the Denver Metro Area
Internship Duration and Hours
This internship is intended to start as soon as possible and last 10-12 weeks, with an expected weekly commitment of 10-15 hours per week, typically during regular business hours with some possibly for evening hours. This structure aims to provide a comprehensive experience while allowing balance with academic commitments.
