The medical typist / admin assistant is responsible for: - Providing a comprehensive audio typing and administrative service to the medical staff and their supporting team. - Undertaking routine office duties including electronic note tracking, photocopying, filing of correspondence and results and maintenance of records - Managing the mail for the unit. - Providing cover for colleagues in their absence to maintain service levels - Ensuring excellent communication is provided to patients, relatives, general practitioners and other hospital staff to ensure a proficient, high-quality service for patients and clinicians. - Regularly informing the secretarial supervisor about progress and flags up as a matter of urgency any issues, for example, capacity or delays due to internal or external factors, difficult queries from patients, etc. - Supporting the achievement of Trust performance by ensuring administrative standards are met e.g., typing times, test results passed to clinician and any potential 52-week breaches are escalated to the clinician, secretarial supervisor or AGM/DGM to avoid breach.

Main responsibilities of the role include: To act as advocate for the neonate. To manage and professionally lead the nursing team in the clinical area in the absence of the senior nurse and as part of the multidisciplinary team. To deliver and supervise patient care for the clinical area ensuring assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of a high standard of nursing care. To manage caseload of patients within defined clinical area, whilst offering guidance to junior medical staff. Ward Top-up service - Regular visits to wards or clinics to check stock levels & re-order medicines where necessary according to a set stock list, checking expiry dates and communicating with ward staff. -Return medicines no longer required to Pharmacy. Distribution -Utilise automated systems to distribute medicines to hospital departments and outside customers -Accurately pick stock medicines and package ready for onward transport. Pharmacy Stores - Unpack goods in the pharmacy stores, check received stock against delivery note and enter onto the Pharmacy computer or place into automatic dispenser. - Put stock away in the correct location, restock shelves in distribution area. - Other duties as requested by Senior Technician purchasing and distribution. - Stock on the pharmacy computer system - Assemble boxes of IV fluids (can involve significant manual handling)

- Ability to get on well with people at all levels and work effectively as a team member. - To be responsible for working with colleagues and managers to provide a safe and welcoming environment for staff, patients and visitors - To support cross county provision of services, working in both of the counties Orthopaedic and fracture clinics. - Under guidance, deliver safe patient care within a challenging and changing clinical environment, using equipment and resources safely and as appropriate. - Discretion and understanding of confidentiality and data protection - To understand and adhere to all Trust policies and procedures. - To communicate effectively, especially where patient ability to do so is compromised. On occasions, the job holder may be exposed to distressing or emotional circumstances. - To act as a chaperone for patients attending clinic appointments. - Undertake specific delegated tasks following the appropriate training and competency level e.g., patient observations and patient personal hygiene, application of simple off the shelf splints and braces, remove plaster casts, record ECG, MRSA screening and venepuncture, arranging admission of patients to wards from clinic. - To participate and contribute to team meetings/ discussions engaging with the team and participating in the ongoing development of the Outpatient Department. - There are also opportunities to progress within the department, following appropriate training and experience. - Will be required to work within the recognised Manual Handling Guidelines. - May be extended to frequently manoeuvre patients/objects over 15kg using appropriate aids for short periods of time. - Will have occasional exposure to unpleasant working conditions and will be required to follow policies and procedures pertaining to bodily fluids, infection control and COSHH regulations. - May be required to work in confined spaces. - Ability to work where the work pattern may be unpredictable e.g. prioritising patient demands.

You will have the ability to work well within a large team and have a meticulous orderly approach to your work. You will be able to work under pressure and still be accurate. You will unpack a range of blood samples, recognise and fast-track urgent samples. The main focus of the role is to input test requests onto the computer system with a high degree of accuracy and to barcode label samples as they arrive into the department. When working on the urgent bench you will need to be able to move from one task to another and be able to remain focused. You will be able to work across sites. You will be able to work overnight and weekends on a rota basis.
