• Promotes Veteran registration for and utilization of HealtheVet (MHV).
• Stocks basic office supplies for the clinical area.
• Enters Veterans seeking emergent/urgent care, scheduling appointments accurately.
• Utilizes call lists and telephones Veterans to pre-register them before their scheduled visits. Updates all patient demographics.
• Communicates and interacts with patients in a manner which is appropriate to cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient.
• Assures that all appropriate VA forms are used correctly, and regulations followed.
• Schedules outpatient appointments using Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VISTA) or DHCP scheduling options and VS GUI (when available).
• Consults with clinic staff when processing physician scheduling and administrative orders.
• Reviews and documents medical outpatient and inpatient electronic health records as well as administrative records.
• MSAs at this level refer all questions regarding medical attention to the appropriate health care team member.

The Lead MSA is responsible for answering questions for lower graded staff relating to healthcare services in an inpatient or outpatient setting. The Lead MSA monitors and makes work assignments, provides input on performance, resolves daily workplace issues, and maintains efficient workflow.

The primary duties of the Lead Medical Support Assistant (LMSA) may include but are not limited to:

• Is a leader in activities that promote safety for the veteran and others in the work area, including, but not limited to, performing monitoring of the patient safety monitoring system after completion of orientation and completion of competency demonstration. Assists with safety monitors such as hand hygiene, safety support or others.
• Precepts and trains new and lower graded staff in functions of Nursing Assistants.

The primary duties of the Medical Support Assistant (Advanced) may include but are not limited to:

• Directing and accomplishing a wide span of team Administration procedures
