To provide technical leadership on procurement in collaboration with the procurement team (Technicians and Pharmacist) across all sites to ensure cost effective procurement of medicine and minimising impact on patient (inpatient and outpatient) due to stock shortages. The post holder will lead on reporting of key performance indicators for procurement which will be to the Chief Technician on a quarterly basis. Management of the procurement services for the MPFT Pharmacy, to ensure a prompt, efficient and accurate supply service (e.g. Purchase orders, budgetary expenditures and deliveries). To work in conjunction with the Business Intelligence Technician in support of contracts and bids. Effectively communicate with pharmaceutical wholesalers, manufacturers, homecare companies and external agencies e.g. CMU, regarding the safe, efficient and cost-effective procurement and supply of medicines. Matters may be of a complex or sensitive nature. Communicate with pharmacy staff, other healthcare professionals and external customers on wide range of queries relating to procurement of medicines and homecare including changes to contracts; availability and cost of medicines (including controlled drugs, unlicensed medicines and specials); and supply issues or delays. Attend and participate in regional pharmacy procurement meetings and adjudication meetings regarding the tendering of medicines and services. To lead the local dispensary team in providing a range of pharmacy medicines supply and advice services. Ensuring compliance with all legislation relating to medicines supply services, in a safe efficient and cost-effective manner. To work collaborative with other Dispensary Managers to promote a safe and effective service. The post holder will be responsible for the creation and management of a multi-year capital replacement programme for medical equipment. This includes facilitating the process of acquisition and standardisation; replacement planning and expenditure forecasting; ensuring compliance with governance, good practice and standards; and data analysis and reporting.
• Lead the Trust’s actions to manage the life cycle of Medical Technology. Through updating Medical equipment records in the Trust equipment database recording acquisition and disposal information and liaising with the procurement and finance department as required.
• Analyse the performance of key items of medical equipment, in terms of reliability, cost of ownership and other key performance indicators to inform the prioritisations of replacement programme and maximise impact in terms of cost of ownership and reliability.
• Liaise with suppliers, clinical end users and budget holders/local managers with the aim of selecting the device that best meets the clinical need as well as satisfying budgetary allocations. Adhering to Trust standing financial instructions during the selection process.





The Medical Engineering Department provide medical device support for The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust and have main workshops based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital and The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford. The department also provides service to external organisations, such as Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust and other private organisations.
