We have an exciting opportunity for a band 5 Occupational Therapist within our Mental Health for Services for Older People (MHSOP) inpatient therapy team.

You will need to be motivated and passionate about the recovery-focussed care of our older patients. The post is primarily based at Highbury Hospital working across Silverbirch and Cherry wards (although there may be some expectation to provide cover at Blossomwood, King’s Mill on some occasions).

You will be part of a very nurturing therapy team and will have the support of a Senior OT, with the opportunity to work with the wider MDT. You will need to have a BSc in Occupational Therapy or equivalent. You need to be HCPC registered. The AHPs in MHSOP include Occupational Therapists (OT), Physiotherapists (PT), Speech and Language Therapists (SLT) and Dietitians. AHP staff work across a variety of clinical teams and are sometimes a lone professional resource in some areas. The post holder needs to work collaboratively within the Care Unit, Care Group and externally to ensure the provision of evidence-based practice by AHPs. The postholder has a key role in directing the responsiveness of the AHP provision across teams and informing the strategy to ensure effective AHP provision. The Care Unit AHP lead is responsible for leading quality assurance and improvement projects where AHPs are the lead resource, clinical priorities such as falls prevention and reduction are highlighted and driven by the AHP lead. To provide advice, signposting and support for parents, carers and young people using Text Health, our text messaging service. Band 6, 37.5 hours per week, office hours 9-5 on 5 days a week. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Mental Health Nurse to join our MHSOP Community Mental Health Team (CMHT) within the Gedling and Hucknall locality. We provide assessment, treatment and support for service users of any age with a diagnosis of a dementia or people over the age of 65 with a mental health condition. The service is for patients experiencing mental health conditions or a dementia diagnosis. The team provides specialist assessment, therapy & treatment, working to an individually tailored care plan to adopt a flexible, patient-centred approach enabling the older person with mental health difficulties to engage in services available to them and to lead as independent a life as possible. Delivered in peoples own homes within the community, the service makes every effort to prevent unnecessary admission to hospital and facilitates the opportunity for people to return home following a hospital admission or period in residential care. There will be an expectation that the team will work closely with current Intensive Home Treatment Teams (IHTTs) in the locality and also with the CRHTs. The service is provided within the work. There will be an expectation at times that the Band 6 Clinician will be the duty worker for the team. You will provide Community Mental Health nursing input into the service. You will also provide specialist assessments and provide support and supervision to junior team members. You will be an experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse and have current NMC registration. You will have proven post qualification experience and have experience of working with this client group and of multi-disciplinary working. You will have a sound knowledge of risk assessment and be able to demonstrate sound evidence-based practice. A full UK driving license and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

The post holder will provide support/consultancy to the CRT and other appropriate statutory/non statutory agencies in relation to professional occupational interventions. Professional and clinical supervision will be provided by the identified OT Professional Lead. The post holder will link into the wider OT network within Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and will work co-operatively with colleagues to ensure high quality service provision. There will be continual professional development opportunities available. They will undertake the role of Practice Field Work Educator for occupational therapy students providing student placements in accordance with local agreements and standards. The community rehab clinical model consists of:

Three areas of intervention including ‘transition’ intervention, where the team facilitates a service users move from inpatient to the community; the ‘hub’, providing bespoke consultation, supervision, training and advise; and the ‘spoke’, where the team provide intensive, time-limited interventions in conjunction with the service users primary team.

Role Purpose:

To provide the Community Rehabilitation Team (CRT) with the defined level of expertise as a registered Occupational Therapist in a dedicated role within the CRT.

This includes to effectively plan and implement a high-quality occupational therapy service with people suffering from serious or complex mental illness referred to the CRT. The post holder will work autonomously and ensure each service user is assessed in relation to their occupational functioning and will work with the individual to identify their plans to maximise independence in relation to daily living.

To provide a lead role as an occupational therapist when working with colleagues within the community rehabilitation team. Working as part of the multi-disciplinary team to use their clinical expertise to participate in the preparation, implementation, and review of plans to aid recovery. This will involve liaison with a range of agencies and services as appropriate to service user’s needs.

This post is eligible for a Golden Hello payment of £2,750 for new starters who are external to the Trust. This is payable in 3 instalments over a 2 year period. This payment is only eligible to new starters who do not already hold a contract of employment with the Trust and have not been an employee of the Trust in the previous 3 years.
