The Clinical Engineering Department is responsible for the provision of comprehensive medical equipment management services to Kingston Hospital and HRCH and this role is responsible for, the management, leadership and co-ordination of the Medical Devices Training over both organizations. To initiate the implementation of Medical Device training programme to ensure training, competency and accurate records are undertaken within departments.

The Emergency Department at Kingston Hospital, in collaboration with colleagues at South West London and St George’s Mental Health Trust has developed an innovative model of care for patients presenting in Mental Health Crisis.

The Mental Health Assessment Unit is co-located with the Emergency Department and accepts patients from A&E who are awaiting psychiatric assessment or onward referral/admission to secondary care mental health services. The unit aims to provide an improved environment and clinical pathways for this patient group by supporting early psychosocial interventions on the principle of a ‘therapeutic wait’



As the dedicated nurse for the unit you will be primarily responsible for the care and safety of the patients within the unit and providing simple and early psychosocial interventions. With the support of the ED Nurse in Charge you will oversee the admissions to the unit from the main A&E department and work in partnership with the Psychiatric Liaison Team to facilitate patients admission to secondary care service or discharge with communicate support.

Patients in the unit may present with mental health problems, self-harm, or as a psychiatric crisis. You will also be expected to work with patients presenting with psychosomatic disorders, as well as a variety of psychological issues related to physical disorders. You will clinically supervise junior staff in the unit, directing their workload and interventions with patients’.

This is a replacement post as the current postholder is moving to a new position and is located mainly in a busy drug and alcohol recovery partnership within a core medical team. You will also be part of a wider multidisciplinary team comprising CPNs, general nurses and recovery coordinators (from a range of backgrounds) and will provide clinical advice to all members of the team. The services work into community, in-patient and day patient settings but the post holder will work primarily within the day unit admitting patients, initiating opiate substitution therapy, overseeing alcohol detoxification and assessing patients with complex co-morbidity (physical and mental health). In addition, you will run medical clinics to review mental health, oversee opiate replacement therapy and manage relapse prevention medication. Cotswold Spa is a specialist eating disorder clinic for young people aged from 13-17 years (CAMHS referrals) and young adults aged 18 to 25 years.

The service treats patients with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and mental health diagnosis such as anxiety, depression, OCD, and some may have a co-morbid diagnosis of learning disabilities.

The hospital is Ofsted registered and provides education facilities for patients who are still studying.

Patients on average stay for a period of 3-4 months. The aim is to restore a healthy weight, modify problem behaviours linked to the eating disorder and help parents and carers work with the young person.

Brook House was recently opened and is situated just a few doors down. This is a satellite centre and supports residents. We are not currently recruiting into this service.
