The Medical Advisor is responsible for crafting medical strategies and ensuring its execution for all relevant therapy areas in Singapore. The job holder will be expected to know and develop close contact with Thought Leaders (TLs) in Singapore within the defined disease areas, actively contribute to the development of short-term medical and marketing programmes for the Country Brand Operating Plan. The role also includes the provision of non-promotional, high-level scientific, medical and educational support to Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) and other stakeholders to make clinical decisions in the treatment of their patients and allowing he/she to gain practical insights into the treatment and management practices of patients. The Medical Advisor will help IPSEN to be positioned as the Partner of Choice for HCPs and other stakeholders.
Main responsibilities / job expectations
Provide Scientific Information and Support
- In close co-ordination with existing medical information resources, respond professionally and quickly to documented unsolicited requests from the field and external stakeholders for clinical information and data in relation to Ipsen’s products and therapy areas.
- Deliver communication on scientific, clinical and technical topics spontaneously requested, in line with appropriate Ipsen SOPs and the Singapore Association of Pharmaceutical Industries (SAPI) Code of Conduct.
- Assist in the organisation and scientific support of key Local events e.g. satellite symposia/Round-table-meetings etc.
Develop and maintain knowledge
- Develop and maintain medical information deck for external HCPs/TLs and internal stakeholders on importance to Ipsen’s products and therapy areas .
- Contribute effectively to various external HCPs/TLs engagements (e.g Round-table-meetings and/or Advisory Panels) to stimulate scientific exchange between physicians by managing evolving evidence in relevant therapy areas.
Medical Affairs Excellence and Business Support
- Sets and align Medical Affairs strategy with medical lead and country commercial team on brand strategies and Country Brand Operation Plans (CBOPs) -including Medical budget management.
- Develop, update and execute medical expert engagement plans in accordance with Ipsen Singapore’s field medical external engagement standards
- Identify and develop KOLs to be Ipsen’s national or international speakers
- Collect actionable insights from interactions with stakeholders in order to develop strategies and actions that can benefit patients.
- Support Market/Patient Access providing relevant clinical and HEOR data to support optimal access and reimbursement conditions for Ipsen products.
- Advising the Brand teams on the most suitable strategic approach for promoting the company’s products from the medical/regulatory point of view.
- To support Marketing department in the supervise, review, and approval of promotional materials from medical point of view ensuring that all local legal requirements and other applicable (e.g. Ethical codes) as well as internal SOPs are met.
- Ensure the delivery of timely and accurate medical training to internal staff to ensure a high level of medical knowledge and understanding that is aligned with Ipsen requirements and relevant standards.
Supervise and successfully manage execution of data generation projects
- Propose clinical centers for participation in Company-Sponsored Studies (CSS) / local data generation of study concepts.
- Ensure appropriate design, monitoring and reporting of clinical/epidemiological/data studies.
- Act as key contact person for the APAC Clinical Operations and/or for the contracted CRO companies.
- Lead and supervise proper execution of Grants and CSS/ISS/data generation.
Regulatory and pharmacovigilance
- Supports Regulatory Affairs in order to meet all regulatory requirements including timely and quality submissions to relevant regulatory authorities by communicating scientific information to regulators in the pre-registration phase (reactively).
- To ensure the required medical support to pharmacovigilance.
- On time reports spontaneous adverse events and technical complaints for all Ipsen products.
Compliance and governance
- Ensure that scientific support is informed, balanced, current, and complies with the spirit and letter of EFPIA codes, SAPI Code of Conduct or regulatory rules and Ipsen SOPs. This includes, but is not restricted to, maintaining high professional standards of conduct, in line with Ipsen Company Standard Operating Procedures, with a duty of care to the reputation of the company.
- Demonstrated capacity to build strong relationships across functions and to work closely with all people across the business.
Knowledge, abilities & experience
Required Education and Experience:
- Medical/Pharmacy degree/PhD degree.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry in Medical Affairs role (experience managing oncology/specialty care products preferred).
- At least 1 year of Medical Advisor/Medical Manager experience is desirable.
- Strong existing network of KOLs across Singapore (especially medical oncologists).
- Demonstrated excellence in developing and implementing medical plans and activities (advisory board, international speaker engagements, medical symposia, etc).
- Demonstrated experience in successfully working with a cross functional team of people (a mix of experience, skills set and roles).
- Knowledge of, and current training in, international/local studies and GxP (GCP, GPvP, GMP, GDP) and other applicable Instruments and regulations governing clinical research, medical information and scientific communication.
- An understanding of the drug development process and a good knowledge of the therapeutic area.
- Understanding of and experience in genitourinary cancers and/or liver cancer is an advantage.

- Able to elicit the knowledge gap in the audience and customize the presentation to communicate the appropriate scientific data.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Provide constructive advice and feedback on strategies and actions to bring better outcomes to patients.
- Knowledge of relevant Code of Practice.
- Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal and influencing skills (English).
