Duties consist of but not limited to the following:

• Incumbent thoroughly searches the medical record to identify and code all information pertinent to the patient's diagnosis (includes demographics, diagnosis, site and histology, diagnostic procedures, extent of disease and treatment).
• Adheres to the guidelines set forth by the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) in the Registry Operations and Data Standards (ROADS), the AJCC Staging Manual International Classification of Diseases for Oncology, ICD9/10, and SEER Surgical Codes when coding tumor registry abstracts.
• Keeps abreast of new medical terminology and revision to the above manuals Utilizes coding references to ensure that complete and accurate data is collected
• Codes information contained on several forms and documents that make up an entire record, to include the electronic health record.
• Codes diseases, surgical procedures, and cause of injury (uses specific codes required in a cancer registry, stage of disease, morphology, and topography using International Classification of Diseases for Oncology, AJCC Staging Manual and the ROADS Manual).
• Independently codes a wide variety of medical diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical procedures.
• Codes diseases and causes of injury
• Codes stages of disease using international classification of Diseases of Oncology.
• Analyzes the consistency of coding of registry data, cancer diagnosis, histology, treatment (Including surgical procedures, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, hormonal therapy and radiation therapy).
• Identifies coding discrepancies
• Facilitates resolution of coding discrepancies by discussion with providers/registry coordinator
• Codes complicated medical records having diagnostic, surgical and therapeutic procedures that are identified as difficult to classify.
• Maintains a control system to ensure that all cases of cancer are coded in a timely manner by adhering to the Standards of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, Registry Operations and Data Standards and appropriate VA Regulations
• Reviews records to obtain data which is then entered into the registry software (The oncology data is available for analysis and used by health care staff for research, patient care, protocol studies, and trends in cancer).
• Submits data from the tumor registry in accordance with VA guidelines to the VA Central Cancer Registry
• As part of an ACOS Approved Cancer Program, data is also submitted annually to the National Cancer Database
• Data is also submitted to the State Cancer Registry in compliance with the CDC (data includes codes for diagnoses and procedures, topography, morphology, and stage of disease, provider information and coded data for the treatment of cancer)
• Collects core data from patients' records, including demographic characteristics, diagnostic procedures, diagnoses, stage and extent of disease
• Independently maintains registry to show occurrences of disease by type, extent of illness and survival (information is gathered from various sources that require the employee to distinguish or validate the data)
• Maintains health record indexes and compiles administrative and health statistics for physicians as well as all other health care staff at this facility and throughout the VA System (may also include public health officials, medical center management, planners, and others)
• Organizes and maintains a data system which conforms to the standards of an Approved Cancer Program and meets the needs of the users of the registry data.

Duties include but not limited to:

• Provides Occupational Therapy evaluation and treatments on a regular basis for a variety of VAMC patients. Especially when areas where staffing is not adequate to meet the patient needs.
• Serves as liaison to medical center staff and university affiliated staff as to programs and services that are available from Occupational Therapy.
• Performs bi annual peer reviews and analyzes data for the Occupational Therapy department.
• Oversees the QA program for Occupational Therapy for Pike, Cobb, Trinka Davis/ CLC areas. Maintaining the records and incorporating new requirements of JCAHO into the current programs.
• Monitors workload on a departmental and therapist level to ensure patient and staff needs are being met.

Duties include but are not limited to:
The Blind Rehab Specialist serves as a Low Vision Therapist (LVT) at the Atlanta VAMC providing services to visually impaired Veterans and Service members within the catchment area of the Atlanta VAMC.
The LVT provides direct patient care and support services to an adult population of patients, which is characterized by a very significant number of older male patients as well as young OEF/OIF Veterans who may have wound and trauma related vision loss. Review of demographic data discloses that the average age of an Atlanta VAMC Advanced Low Vision Service (ALVS) patient is 71 years, median age of 70, with a distribution of 95% male and 5% female. Within these broad categorizations, the LVT must tailor patient care and support services to meet the needs of the individual patient. This includes the responsibility for assessment of each patient's
needs and the delivery of services, which are responsive to the concerns of individual patients, their family and caregivers, to the extent possible.
The LVT is responsible for reviewing and scheduling patients referred for Low Vision services and for updating referrals in Blind Rehabilitation System 5.0.
The LVT is responsible for blind and vision rehabilitation assessment, planning, training, and outcomes evaluation on each Veteran for whom service is provided. This includes:

• assessment of the patient's background, interests, future plans, motivation, needs, and aptitude
• completion of a functional low vision evaluation that identifies visual impairments related to:

• evaluation of the patient's functional visual capabilities with standard low vision optical, electronic, and non-optical devices
• determination of appropriate instructional techniques
• implementation of training plans, including use of visual motor skills; and
• continued reassessment of patients' needs and goal attainment throughout the rehabilitation process

• The GMH Regional Medical Director will be responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric services for Veterans primarily in an outpatient psychiatry clinic.
• When providing Attending back-up call duties to the psychiatry residents, will provide consultation regarding mental health needs to patients being treated in the ED, inpatient med/surg units, and also in psychiatry inpatient settings.
• Psychiatrist will provide consultation to residents of the Residential Rehabilitation programs on an as needed basis.
• Psychiatrist will provide general psychiatric care to male and female adult Veterans which include, but is not limited to, conducting diagnostic evaluations, psychiatric consultation, medication management, and individual or group psychotherapy.
