OPAL House is a specialist reablement unit based at Wythenshawe Hospital in south Manchester designed to support older people in the transition from the acute hospital site to their own home following a period of acute illness. You will undertake occupational therapy assessment and treatment with the specific aim to instil functional independence and support their physical and mental wellbeing.

You need to have specialist assessment and treatment skills to support and inform discharge plans. You will be able to manage a varied caseload autonomously and be able to work within a multidisciplinary team.

You will support the Senior Practitioner in the day-to-day running of the team and contribute to service development. You will have an interest in working in frailty and acute medicine.

You will supervise staff including band 4 Therapy Technicians. You will support, train and educate others. You will maintain your own continuing professional development. You will be supported to develop personally and professionally within this role.

To perform occupational therapy assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, and ensure safe and effective discharge. To develop and deliver individualised assessment and treatment programme. This will involve liaison with community services, day services, the voluntary sector and other service providers.

To be responsible for the management your own caseload, with support and supervision as required. Supervision takes the form of regular formal training and clinical reasoning sessions, peer review and case conferences.

To be able to carry out comprehensive generic therapy assessments and interventions in line with best practice such as the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment framework, in a ward setting, identifying required interventions, supporting timely discharge and directing patients towards the most appropriate pathways of care.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.

To supervise, educate and assess the performance of occupational therapy students (this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with universities to ensure the level of clinical practice and teaching meets the standards set by the degree level qualification). This role is supported through access to a clinical educator’s course if required.

To support the therapy team lead in the ongoing development of the OPAL House therapy service.

ACC is a 19 bedded coronary care unit, which specialises in the care of patients with heart failure, adult congenital heart disease, and those who have undergone advanced cardiology interventions in our cardiac catheter labs following a number of advanced cardiology interventions such as primary PCI.

You will be an experienced staff nurse looking for a challenge in order to progress your career in nursing. You will demonstrate excellent knowledge and previous experience of caring for cardiac patients as well as processing excellent leadership skills. You will be working collaboratively with other MDT members. You will be confident in working under your own initiative and able to prioritise your clinical care and work load accordingly.

You will have the opportunity to develop your leadership and management skills with the full assistance of the ward manager and matron. You will receive a full induction and will be supported by the specialist education team to become a competent junior sister / charge nurse. We hold annual appraisals and regular 1:1 meetings to guide you in the new role and discuss what can be done to support you.

The post holder will assess, plan implement and evaluate the care for these patients supporting and guiding junior staff in the process. The post holder will provide direct patient care and have detailed clinical knowledge of the specialist area. Applicants should demonstrate a special interest in the following areas as the main duties of the job will involve:

- Reccurrent miscarriage – Regular GOPD clinics

- OP Hysteroscopy – Candidates should know and have basic experience in this skill but can be trained further to work towards independent practice

- Complex caesarean Section – Regular ANC and Theatre training with the complex caesarean section team.

- Delivery unit sessions- Biweekly CDU sessions . Candidates should be expected to be working at ST5+ level

The Trust is signed up to the SAS charter and the Department will endeavour to support applicants looking to apply for consultant posts via the CESR route. To date 9 SAS doctors have been employed by SMH, 6 of these attempted and successfully achieved CESR. The Department will also endeavour to aid successful applicants in the development of specialist interests within the fields of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Our SAS doctors are senior members of the team and have opportunity to attend department meetings and take part in quality improvement projects to develop our service and undertake clinical audits.
