Consultant Radiologist with interest Oncology and Cancer Imaging


This is a replacement post in the Imaging service – Clinical Support & Imaging Management Group (CSI CMG). The post holder will join an established team of Oncology and GIGU radiologists supporting clinicians and delivering acute and elective imaging in both specialist areas and in general radiology. The post holder will join the comprehensive diagnostic body rota 1 in 30 plus delivering diagnostic oncology/Abdominal reporting across the UHL, subject to required skills if they are available.

It is expected that the post holder will take part in the provision of emergency imaging across the UHL.

This is a new consultant post. The post holder will be expected to work closely in the team with the existing radiologists to support the continuing development of imaging within UHL as a whole.

The appointment will be whole time. Any consultant who is unable for personal reasons, to work whole time, will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with consultant colleagues.


PRINCIPAL ELEMENTS OF THE POST WILL BE:-
• To undertake programmed activities in Oncology and Gastrointestinal imaging. Opportunities for development of the existing service and they will be supported where they reflect and support the needs of the local population and the development plans of the trust.
• To support the provision of imaging in oncology and haematology.
• To assist oncologists with radiotherapy.
• To review oncology imaging performed as an emergency within and out of hours.
• To lead/take part in MDTs including lymphoma/Myeloma depending on the needs of department

MAXILLOFACIAL SERVICE The Maxillofacial service for Leicestershire is centralised at the Leicester Royal Infirmary where all maxillofacial surgery takes place. There is a 30-bedded mixed sex adult ward and also beds on the Kinmonth Unit where our major cases are cared for. The outpatient department provides accommodation for the clinical staff in individual fully equipped consulting rooms and surgeries. There are regular maxillofacial outpatient clinics held in our alliance hospitals; Loughborough, Melton Mowbray, and Coalville. All maxillofacial emergencies are referred to the Leicester Royal Infirmary and, if necessary, admitted there. THEATRE FACILITIES There are two designated maxillofacial theatres and the use of day theatres. MAXILLOFACIAL DEPARTMENT The Maxillofacial Unit is currently situated on Level 0 in the Balmoral Building of the Leicester Royal Infirmary. It consists of clinical and administrative areas and incorporates a maxillofacial laboratory. OTHER DUTIES The successful candidates will be required to undertake managerial duties associated with the care of patients and the running of the Clinical Department. Adequate office space and secretarial support will be made available. TEACHING The Maxillofacial Department at the Leicester Royal Infirmary provides both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
