About the Opportunity

Our client’s Nuclear Power Engineering & Technical Solutions business provides engineering and technical solutions across the full nuclear lifecycle up to Decommissioning, evolving their credibility as new reactor technologies come to market - creating the UK’s most compelling Engineering & Technical solutions provider across all reactor types to contribute to the world’s global climate change challenge.

This is a key role within their project management portfolio which is spread across their UK network at all UK sites and stations. You will be supported and mentored by experienced engineering management professionals and given the training and opportunities you need to develop and expand your project engineering management and leadership skills with larger and more complex projects. You will be part of a large client-led team at Heysham Power Station.

Flexible working arrangements between office and home may be possible, however the role will Station based 5 days per week.

Key responsibilities will be:

• Project Managers are accountable to the client PPM for successful delivery of all aspects of their assigned projects. The Project Manager sets the project execution strategy in agreement with the client PPM and uses a cross-functional project team to deliver the project safely in line with company policies and procedures, achieving established goals and objectives within the agreed baseline. This role has no direct reports.
• The role will be based at the Heysham B Power Station and will require occasional business travel to other UK sites/stations. In this role you will report to the Operations Manager but be accountable for project delivery directly to the client.
• Everyone working in our team will have a proven track record of working within highly regulated environments with high safety standards and culture.
• Strong communication and organisational skills are a must with the ability to develop relationships and maintain effective networks and be results-focused tempered with a team-centred approach.

What you need in order to be great in this role:

• Degree educated, ideally in engineering or a related subject, with preferred Chartership.
• APMP formal project management qualification or equivalent and versed in modern project management techniques within complex, multi-functional organisations have a thorough understanding and knowledge of engineering, design, procurement, safety case, construction and installation/commissioning management and commercial contracting.
• Able to demonstrate an understanding of Safety Cases including how they are developed and implemented, relevant Health and Safety and Environment legislation including CDM and the actions required to achieve compliance
• Good understanding of the needs of quality and how quality is assured and controlled along with relevant experience of commercial, contractual, and financial project drivers.
• Demonstrable experience of managing projects throughout the full project lifecycle, ideally across a range of complex multi-discipline projects and environments, and management of an integrated project team including staff, agency and assigned functional support.
• Experience of estimating, cost control, planning and commercial awareness including the preparation of business cases and sanction/ funding papers.
• Experienced in the preparation of reports and information using packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint, be proficient in the use of estimating, scheduling, programming and risk tools and in the use of Earned Value tools. Analytical approach with high-level problem-solving ability.
• Experience of working at Power Stations and Nuclear Licensed Sites is preferred but not essential.

About the Opportunity

We are recruiting for an experienced Project Engineer to join our clients Nuclear Power Engineering and Technical Services team supporting their nuclear fleet in the UK.

This is a key role within our clients project and engineering portfolio which is spread across UK networks at all UK sites and stations. You will be supported and mentored by experienced project engineering management professionals within the team and given the training and opportunities you need to develop and expand your project engineering management and leadership skills with larger and more complex projects.

This role will be based at Heysham 2 Power Station location, since 1988 Heysham 2 has generated 295TWh of zero carbon electricity which is the equivalent of enough power to every home in Lancashire for 144 years, or like taking every car off the UKs roads for 18 months.

You will be accountable to our clients Project Manager, Programme Manager and/or Construction Manager.

The role will predominantly be based at the Power Station, 5 days a week.

Key responsibilities will be:

• Producing and maintaining engineering documentation including quality plans and technical specifications.
• Management of technical queries in accordance with relevant processes and procedures.
• Supporting the process of contractor selection and contract placement.
• Technical reviews of contractor documents and drawings.
• Carrying out technical appraisals of project options.
• Performing feasibility studies, site surveys and liaison with designers and station engineering staff as required.
• Prepare Engineering changes and manage the preparation of supporting and affected documents.
• Commissioning documents and act as test team leader where appropriate.
• Supporting the Project Manager and Construction Manager in managing the project and ensuring the work is carried out in a safe, timely and effective manner to its conclusion.

Qualifications

• Typically Chartered Engineer or HND.
• Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) qualification.
• Candidates that hold a formal project management qualification and are versed in modern project management techniques, preferred but not essential.
• Experience of identifying, implementing, and complying with applicable safety, environmental and quality standards, company procedures and policies and other relevant legislative and regulatory requirements.
• Knowledge and experience of delivering construction projects under CDM.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
• A background of working at Power Stations and Nuclear Licensed Sites is preferred but not essential and everyone working in our team will have a proven track record of working within highly regulated environments with high safety standards.

You will be responsible for processing high volumes of invoices daily, dealing with purchasing and producing statement reconciliations. We have an exciting opportunity here at Heysham 2 Power Station for a Human Performance (HU) lead to join the team on a two-year secondment or permanent basis.
The Opportunity

We are looking for a self-motivated and passionate person to join the Performance Improvement team and work closely with the Leadership Performance Lead, Business Improvement Lead, CAP Coordinator and Operating Experience (OpEx) Coordinator to support organisational and performance improvement.
The HU lead is responsible for the creation, management and oversight of the station’s overall HU Strategy, working with the HU Task Team, Senior Leadership Team and wider station leadership organisation to achieve this. You will need to be confident in managing and engaging with a wide range of key stakeholders at all levels both internal and external.
You will spend time ‘in the field’ providing specialist advice, guidance, coaching and training to station teams, including contract partners, in the area of Human Performance.

We can offer a competitive salary from £40,069 to £71,779 and you will be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications.

What you will be doing
Ideal applicants for this role will act as the business unit lead and the station process owner for HU and work with line managers to integrate the five principles into all functions, in addition to the following:

- Promote a common language and understanding of human performance concepts and terms.
- Support leaders to create a culture for their people to perform at their best and the freedom to speak up in a situation where they might identify a deficiency in a system or process that could lead to errors.
- Drive the station’s ownership of HU performance at both an organisational and individual level.
- Develop a strategic approach to minimise the frequency and severity of events resulting from human error.
- Encourage organisational improvement by finding and eliminating conditions that either provoke human error or obstruct the effectiveness of defences against human error.
- Develop a network of effective HU advocates on the station.
- Coordinate an effective HU mentoring and coaching programme.
- Work closely with the local training team and Fleet HU Specialists to ensure that the principles of Human Performance are at the heart of training programmes.
- Take a proactive role in the fleet HU peer group, sharing best practice and supporting fleet colleagues in their HU improvement programmes where appropriate.
- Becoming a subject matter expert on the factors that influence human error.

Who you are
As the successful HU lead you will have the following:

- You must hold at minimum an HNC, ideally in a relevant technical or engineering discipline.
- Can demonstrate the ability to both coach and challenge behaviour.

- Understand factors that cause and prevent human error.

- A wide knowledge of the station’s plant and processes is beneficial.
