Hays Accountancy & Finance are partnering with a growing and well-established SME within the construction sector to recruit an experienced and hands-on accountant. Based in Hereford, Herefordshire, this is a varied accounting role, reporting to the company directors and supporting the external accountants. The company has some great plans to develop systems and reporting that the appointed Accountant will project lead, along with supporting process improvement projects. Being a key member of a small office environment, you will be responsible for maintaining all financial processes and records for this growing construction business. Open to both finance professionals from industry and practice with future scope to take on more duties as you develop.

Your new role

Your key duties will involve producing year-end reports for the external accountants, preparation of monthly management accounts, preparing cash forecasts, along with preparing office of national statistic forms. You will submit VAT and CIS returns, be involved in subcontractor processes with HMRC, maintain the fixed asset register, along with preparing payment runs. You will input purchase ledger invoices, assist in projects costing, reconcile the bank, petty cash, credit cards and allocate cash movements against ledgers. You will raise sales invoices, monitor customer payments and chase where necessary, along with supplier statement reconciliations. You will support the external payroll bureau with information requirements and review payroll reports, update pension contributions, and represent the business as the primary point of contact for financial queries. You will be involved and take the lead on process and system improvement projects, and develop the financial processes as the business grows, including evaluating financial controls to help mitigate risk.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this hands-on Accountant role, you will need experience within a similar position, strong knowledge of general accounting principles, along with key MS excel skills and experience in financial systems. You will have excellent analytical skills with key attention to detail and be able to manage workloads to meet time constraint deadlines. You will have a passion for suggesting and implementing new processes to improve the finance department, with good communication skills to build both internal and external relationships with non-financial management. You will be enthusiastic about progress and continual development to aid business growth. You will be part-qualified/qualified CIMA/ACCA/ACA or qualified by experience, willing to learn, with a self-motivated working approach. Experience within the construction sector and CIS would be advantageous but not essential.

What you'll get in return

This permanent accountant role offers a salary between £35,000 - £40,000 per annum, dependable on experience based in Hereford, Herefordshire.
