Performs multiple, varying, and complex assignments under the limited direction of a manager, project/program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist. May act as a contributing specialist on large work activities or as a team leader for single or small work activities.
Applies experience and advanced technical knowledge policies and principles relative to a variety of telecommunication applications ranging from Internet Protocol (IP) networks, Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) technology, fiber optics, microwave technology, telephone systems and/or Private Branch Exchanges (PBX) systems. Utilizes telecommunications experience and knowledge to accomplish assignments and develop plans and techniques to improve programs and policies. Understands how this technical area interacts with, or is affected by, other disciplines and considers the objectives of the major subdivision and/or LOB when developing, integrating, and implementing solutions to diverse, complex problems. Performs technical and analytical work pertaining to the planning, development, testing, integration, installation, utilization, or modification of telecommunications systems, facilities, services, and procedures.
Defines, plans and organizes assigned resources for the installation of new or modified hardware/software and telecommunications systems. Allocates systems resources for accomplishing small work activities within established schedules. Maintains accounts, network rights and access to systems and equipment, administers passwords. Maintains integrity of mainframe, hardware, software and/or telecommunications systems. Monitors assigned systems to ensure they remain in an operational status. Analyzes problems and restores systems/service. Responsible for system design and integration; investigation and inspection activities, and compliance and enforcement actions. Designs, develops, monitors, and conducts a variety of technical and operational tests and evaluations of a wide range of communications equipment, systems, networks, and facilities.
Contacts are internal and external. May act as a key technical point of contact for assigned activities. Contributes to the preparation of management/technical reports or contractual documents, and may communicate the overall results of a project or work activity to FAA management, the aviation and aerospace industries, and other external parties.
Work activities typically support and may be vital to the success of projects or activities of one or more organizational units, subdivisions, and LOBs/Staff Offices. In some areas, the work may affect the safety and security of customers and may have a direct impact on the National Air Space (NAS).
