We are seeking to appoint a suitably experienced, and enthusiastic Design and Technology Technician to support the continuing improvement of this large and successful faculty. Whilst the role focuses largely on supporting teaching and learning in the Product Design/Resistant Materials/Textiles areas, the successful candidate will also be required to work with the Food Technician and the Head of Art to support the preparation of resources and teaching and learning across the whole faculty.

It is not expected that all appropriate licences will be held for the safe use and maintenance of machinery in the workshops and training will be provided. An interest in, and aptitude for Computer Aided Design and Manufacture will be a distinct advantage.

You will have a broad-based knowledge of materials and are reliable, organised, calm and flexible with an enthusiasm for design as well as being confident dealing with pupils. You are competent in a range of manufacturing techniques and have practical experience of using tools and machines including pillar drill and band saw. You must also be competent in using IT and ordering systems. Previous DT technician experience within a school or relevant industry experience is essential.

We are seeking an experienced and accomplished Head of Technical to join our established site team. This site leadership role will

Position Overview: As the Head of Technical, you will be responsible for the delivery of our business and technical strategy at
our chilled food manufacturing site in Nottingham. You will lead and inspire the full technical and site hygiene teams,
collaborate with key stakeholders, and ensure compliance with industry standards and rise the bar with our customers expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

* Strategy Execution: Deliver the business and technical strategy for the site and our variety of retail customers, ensuring
alignment with quality, legality, integrity, and food safety goals.
* Technical Leadership: Provide day-to-day technical accountability for the site and ensure that the hygiene and technical
performance of the site meets and exceeds standards.
* Leadership: Play a key role in the site Senior Leadership Team (SLT), contributing to the overall success of the site.
* Customer Management: Deliver excellence in technical customer management, ensuring compliance with client expectations and
managing customer visits, audits, and launches effectively.
* Team Management: Manage the site's technical and hygiene teams on a day-to-day basis, driving technical standards, compliance,
and continuous improvements.
* Cross-functional Collaboration: Develop cross-functional relationships at site and group levels, encouraging joined-up working
and raising awareness of technical activities across the group.
* Performance Management: Having 5 direct reports, you will set clear SMART objectives for the technical function/team and
conduct regular reviews. Use data effectively to manage site performance and drive continuous improvement.
* Quality Assurance: Develop and improve customer joint quality plans, maintain the highest audit accreditation/results, and
ensure customer requirements and industry standards are exceeded.
* Budget Management: Set and manage technical and hygiene budgets effectively.
* Retailer Engagement: Represent the site/company at retailer meetings, audits, and visits, with a focus on Top 5 UK retailer
experience.
* Technical Expertise: Utilise your technical expertise, including HACCP, Food Safety, TACCP/Integrity, and lead auditor
qualifications, to support product process and design from a technical perspective.
* Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement across the site in all areas against agreed KPIs, customer requirements,
and legislation.




Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Food background).
* HACCP level 3 certification, Food Safety level 3 certification, TACCP/Integrity certification.
* Lead auditor qualification.
* Full UK driving license.
* Proven track record of technical/quality management in a large, challenging, fast-paced environment chilled food environment.
* Strong communication and negotiation skills in reactive and flexible situations.
* Experience leading Top 5 retailer and certification audits.
* Proven ability to manage a large technical and Hygiene team and develop talent.
* Accomplished in driving the group's technical agenda/strategy.
* Continuously improve the site technical standards and technical KPIs.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Faculty of Engineering’s Powertrain Research Centre for an individual to join our team of highly skilled engineering technicians engaged in the manufacture, assembly, preparation and maintenance of research rigs and equipment. Our technical team works closely with students and staff and engage in a varied portfolio of work across all the University’s engineering disciplines. We believe diverse teams make us stronger. The Role

As the Powertrain Lead Technician, you will have supervisory responsibilities of a team of two technicians supporting research into alternative fuelled internal combustion engines and automotive batteries. You will provide support in either mechanical workshop processes or electro-mechanical / instrumentation. The role is key in contributing to the manufacture of a wide range of components and subsequent assembly into custom research rigs and associated systems in support of research. The role will require a diverse range of engineering techniques and skills. Responsibilities will include liaising with colleagues on design and installation of engine fuel supply circuits, regular maintenance of all mechanical aspects of the test rigs and the management of laboratory health and safety. The role holder will communicate well at all levels from professorial to undergraduate.

Manufacture, assembly, operation, maintenance, servicing, repair and adjustment of precision rigs and associated equipment to support individual research experiments.
Preparing and testing of high-pressure gas pipe systems, as well as maintaining safety devices and repairing/replacing as and when necessary.
Conventional/CNC machining and modification of components OR electro-mechanical / instrumentational design, installation, testing and monitoring of engine test beds.
Specification and ordering of outsourced components and assemblies.
Your Experience

Principles of mechanical assembly.
Attained at least an HNC in an engineering discipline or experience in a relevant role.
It's desirable to have a working knowledge of CAD programs, such as Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor, or similar.
