The Security Officer provides protection for all persons and property safety within the organization and its environment. Provides customer service and ensures orderly parking. Responds to security needs of hospital personnel quickly and effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
1. Patrols Medical Center complex, including all buildings and grounds, to provide a visible deterrence in preventing criminal and prohibited activity (fire, accidents). Ensures safety and unauthorized entry, including inspecting doors, windows and locks to determine level of security.
2. Responds quickly and effectively to all calls for service
3. Ensures only authorized personnel are admitted onto hospital premises.
4. Assures orderly, safe, and efficient access and parking for patients, visitors and employees as needed/upon request.
5. Assists motorists who become stranded on hospital property.
6. Performs Dispatcher responsibilities.
7. Responds in a timely manner and reports all incidents occurring on hospital property and submits an incident report after the investigation to the director by end of shift.
8. Writes accurate, clear and legible incident/Midas reports and documents investigative steps and results.
9. Responds to all emergency/alarm(s) calls for assistance, with a minimum of two Officers, to control behavioral issues, disorderly conduct or combative patients.
10. Conducts searches, at the request of staff, when reasonable suspicion has been established, to provide a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees.
11. Performs Services to Departments/Practices, and patients to ensure safe handling of monies.
12. Assists with patient lifting/moving as requested, and at the direction of clinical staff.
13. Escorts customers and employee as needed and requested.
14. Operates Security Department vehicles and bicycle in a safe and efficient manner at all times.
15. Monitors the hospital using electronic security equipment (closed-circuit television, alarms, HUGS infant security system, etc.).
16. Complies with and enforces all organizational policies and procedures as assigned by Administration and the Security Director.
17. Processing of Deceased Patients
18. Participates in performance improvement activities as requested (ie., Standard Work, Security tasks, etc.)
19. Performs switchboard responsibilities as directed:
20. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. He/she shall be able to identify each patient's age-specific needs and promote a secure environment needed by the patient group.
21. Customer Services: Interacts with all individuals in a consistent manner, providing attention, support and assistance to foster an environment of exceptional personal service.
Maintains a pleasant and helpful demeanor and presents a professional appearance toward all internal and external customers at all times.
Regulatory Requirements:
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must possess a current, active Maine Driver’s License with no court-imposed restrictions.
• This CMHC position must meet the criteria for evaluating vehicle operator suitability. It has been determined that this position requires either the operation of a system or leased vehicle or the use of a personal vehicle for business purposes on a regular basis an integral part of the job.
Must clear security checks:
A. No convictions for offenses that reflect behavior unsuited for security.
B. No convictions for violations of ME traffic laws that reflect abuse of intoxicating or impairing substances, or regard for public safety or general disregard for public law. (e.g. assault, theft)
Record checks include:
A. ME State Police Criminal History Files.
B. Department of Motor Vehicles Files
Language Skills:
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Additional languages preferred.
Skills:
• Basic computer knowledge required.
• Knowledge of investigative procedures, de-escalating violence, hospital security, infant abduction and protection mechanisms preferred.
