Senior Counsel, Trade Compliance

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced global trade compliance attorney to join our dynamic team and help to innovate Applied Materials’ compliance program with the evolving regulatory landscape for the semiconductor industry.  This senior counsel position will support all facets of global trade compliance with an emphasis on supply chain, engineering and procurement functional related trade challenges.  The successful candidate will have experience supporting complex trade issues involving classification of technology, software and/or source code; technology transfers and IT controls/security for controlled technology; and supply chain and procurement restrictions resulting from recent export control regulatory changes and import restrictions globally.  In this position, you will contribute to functional strategy and lead project teams involving innovative and evolving regulatory changes in the semiconductor industry.

Based in Santa Clara, CA, this will be a critical role reporting into the Senior Director, Trade Compliance.  This Senior Counsel, Trade Compliance will join a growing team of dedicated in-house legal support to the company’s global trade function and work horizontally with key business stakeholders.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

• Continually analyzing the evolving trade laws and regulations applicable to the company, and their impact on strategy and operations.
• Advising and problem solving on compliance issues involving technology transfers and IT controls/security for controlled technology and supply chain restrictions that have a broad impact on the business.
• Providing critical programmatic support for trade compliance organization enhancements throughout the global enterprise.
• Develop process enhancements that embed new regulatory requirements into business operations.
• Design and advise on enhancements for trade compliance policies, operating procedures and technology control plans.
• Partner with leaders within legal, engineering and supply chain on large-scale, complex supply chain initiatives.
• Advise on trade compliance training for a variety of audiences involving classification of technology, software and/or source code.

Major Areas of Responsibility

As an in-house attorney focused on trade compliance, you will advise on cross-border transactions and a wide range of international trade compliance matters.  This senior counsel position will collaborate closely with peers in developing and enhancing both US and non-US compliance processes as geopolitics continue to influence global trade strategy and business for the semiconductor industry.  You will coordinate with external legal counsel, as appropriate, and provide legal advice to the company’s global business units and departments.  You will have frequent contact with internal stakeholders throughout the company’s global operations, including executives.  

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate degree and a minimum of 6-8 years of experience in advising multinational businesses on trade compliance matters, including US export controls, imports/customs, sanctions and compliance program development.

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. Job Specific

• Performs Security Office, Employee Entrance and Patrol operations as outlined in the Standards of Performance Manual for Security Officers
• Thoroughly understands all Hotel Emergency Response Procedures and is able to respond appropriately to all situations

The Role

Summer Interns are offered the opportunity to experience corporate Legal Team Focus Areas and expertise while collaborating with team members through interviews, involvement in meetings, training, and assisting as appropriate. Over the course of the Internship, Intern will rotate through eight (8) Legal Focus Areas – each one building on the last and carrying through to the next. During each rotation, Intern will have time for an interview with the Focus Area leader, join relevant meetings, and assist with chosen tasks. Tasks may carry over from week to week to allow Intern to maximize experience and support of each Focus Area.

Approximate Dates of this Internship are May/June 2024 through August 2024.

Intern must provide own housing in the Goleta, CA area or work remote.

THE JOB 

The Hollywood Palladium is seeking a Venue Security Supervisor. The Security Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating activities of the security department and staff within the venue. Duties may also include management functions under the direction of the Security Manager and Operations Manager. 

WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO 

• Direct and supervise security staff and other employees performing security services for guests. 
• Provide guest service by greeting and assisting guests and responding to guest inquiries and complaints.
• Lead staff, ongoing staff training, staff positioning, ensuring that all staff members are well-informed on event specific details and managing breaks. 

• Assist the Security Manager to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures that relate to the security department, as well as local, state and federal laws and regulations. 
• Oversees productivity and work assignments of the security staff and communicates with the Security Manager (or designated Manager) any challenges and status of all assignments prior to the conclusion of the shift. 
• Partner with fellow staff members at the end of show to close the venue- this may include picking up and properly storing event equipment such as bike rack, mags, etc.
• Train and evaluate security team members in venues. 

• Assign and schedule team members to specific duties. 
• Role model and enforce safety, health, and security priorities. 
• Write reports of daily activities and irregularities such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences. 
• Other tasks as assigned by the Security Manager. 

WHAT THIS PERSON WILL BRING 

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. 
• At least 2 years of experience in a similar role.
• PPSO certified, 16 hrs. total training course, may be asked to provide certificate of completion.
• CA guard card, 40hrs total, covering powers to arrest, terrorist awareness and chemical agents, posts & job descriptions.

• Working knowledge of security operations, safety practices in a business environment and enforcement procedures. 
• Strong strategic thinking and creative problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Acute sense of judgment, tact and diplomacy.
• A strong sense of teamwork and ability to execute programs.

• Position requires constant walking, climbing stairs, lifting and carrying 50 lbs.+ and occasional sitting.
• De-escalation tactics and training experience.

THE JOB

Hollywood Palladium is seeking a Security team member. This person will guard, patrol, and/or monitor the venue premises to prevent theft, violence, or infractions of rules. May operate metal detector equipment.

WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO

• Responsible for the safety and security of patrons, employees, and assets.
• Conduct patrols of the building on a regular basis. Respond to all security & safety related calls in a timely manner. Exhibit exemplary conduct & appearance while on duty.
• Comply with & adhere to all the department’s performance, conduct & attendance standards.
• Perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without the loss of efficiency or composure.
• Comply with all the legal & ethical instructions given by the Security Supervisors on duty and the Manager of Security.
• Adhere to the Security department's policies and procedures.
• Investigate and compile accurate incident reports.
• Complete all assigned tasks within the guidelines and deadlines set by the Security Supervisors and/or the Manager of Security.
• Interact with patrons, vendors, and employees in a courteous and professional manner.
• Other duties as assigned
