Job Overview

The Executive Assistant to the Executive Vice President and Dean provides key administrative functions and logistical support to the Executive Vice President and Dean of Georgetown University Law Center (EVP/Dean).

A self-directed team player who takes initiative, the Executive Assistant anticipates needs, ensures consistent high quality products and materials, and adapts to different situations. Specifically, they are responsible for planning, scheduling, and maintaining the EVP/Dean’s calendar – and are foremost responsible for all aspects of the EVP/Dean’s schedule, including making all arrangements for day-to-day meetings, events, and travel with consistency and acute attention to detail. That support involves scheduling meetings for all initiatives of the EVP/Dean’s office, ensuring that all materials for meetings are distributed to participants in a timely manner, and that all meetings are confirmed.

As well, they are responsible for daily briefing material preparation, assistance with preparation for meetings, correspondence including email, mail, and phone calls to the EVP/Dean’s office; event support for events organized by the EVP/Dean, and other duties as assigned.

Work Interactions

The Executive Assistant reports to the Associate Vice President and Chief of Staff (AVP/Chief of Staff) for the EVP/Dean, who manages the EVP/Dean’s Office team, with significant interaction with and direction from the EVP/Dean.

The EA - a trusted member of an essential team - has significant contact with all persons who interact with the EVP/Dean’s Office. They manage the complex needs of the EVP/Dean, and consequently, have a critical role in the proper functioning of the EVP/Dean’s Office. They necessarily maintain a firm grasp of the EVP/Dean’s Office organization, the Law Center, and the University more broadly; and maintain a strong working relationship with offices throughout the Law Center and University.

In a highly visible position, the EA proactively engages with, learns, and communicates with evolving technologies to enhance the productivity of the EVP/Dean and their team. They interact on a regular basis with both internal and external constituencies, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, Law Center and University officials, local, national, and international government officials, and VIP dignitaries. As such, the professionalism with which the EA performs their duties has an impact on the impression that faculty, staff, students, and visitors have of the EVP/Dean’s Office and the Law Center.

As well, the EA interacts closely with all direct reports of the EVP/Dean as well as the direct reports of the Vice Dean; and with all levels of Law Center and University leadership, counterparts in other offices, Board members and their representatives, and external colleagues.

Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree
3 to 5 years of progressively complex administrative and customer service experience supporting senior leadership or C-level executive(s)
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including grammar, spelling, and composition Exceptionally strong organizational skills and analytical abilities
Proven interpersonal skills and experience providing complex administrative support in a high profile environment with courtesy, professionalism, diplomacy, efficiency, and confidentiality
Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks and work under pressure
Proficiency with standard office equipment, such as printers, copiers, faxes, and scanners, and excellent skills with standard office productivity software including Gmail, Google Calendaring and other applications, Microsoft Office Suite (MSWord, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint), including the use of advanced formatting of Word, and the ability to set up and use Excel and Google spreadsheets

Job Overview

Professors Paul Ohm and Julie Cohen of the Georgetown University Law Center and Professor Meg Jones in the Georgetown Communications, Culture, and Technology Department have launched a multi-year research project entitled “Redesigning the Governance Stack: New Institutional Approaches to Information Economy Harms” - housed in the Institute for Technology Law and Policy at Georgetown Law. We seek applications for an academic fellow to help us lead this project. This position is a full-time, two-year academic position designed for someone interested in going on the law teaching market during the second year of the fellowship.

The project aims to reinvent the institutions and tools used to govern technology and technology companies in ways that prioritize public accountability and effective public oversight. It will seek to restore and re-center the rule of law within a new institutional framework designed around the needs and failure modes of an informational economy. This will be a “full stack” effort, encompassing the sorts of implementation details that shorter term projects might propose but also extending down to rethink fundamental principles of regulatory organization and operation. The first outputs of the project are available here.

The successful applicant will be well acquainted with issues related to technology law and policy and will have some familiarity with one or more of the following adjacent fields: administrative law, computer science, science and technology studies, information and/or communication studies, and political economy.

We have secured the first year of funding for the position at this stage. We are confident we will be able to secure funding for at least a second year from other sources, and we hope the position will be funded for at least five years, contingent on future grant awards.

Requirements and Qualifications

JD or equivalent degree in law
3-5 years of experience - preference for 2 or more of those years with professional or academic experience dealing with important social issues at the intersection of technology, law and policy
A proven track record of successful production of interesting research - preference for some prior publications
Strong acquaintance with issues related to technology law and policy and some familiarity with one or more of the following adjacent fields: administrative law, computer science, science and technology studies, information and/or communication studies, and political economy
Legal training and other relevant experience with strong acquaintance with issues related to technology law and policy
Some familiarity with one or more of the following adjacent fields: administrative law, computer science, science and technology studies, information and/or communication studies, and political economy

Preferred qualifications

Excellent skills in research and writing, oral communications, problem-solving and critical-thinking, collaboration, and organization
Motivation, enthusiasm, and self-drive
Authorship or co-authorship of academic publications in any discipline

The expected pay range for this position is $54,616 to $90,000 per annum.

Job Overview

The Georgetown University Law Center's Information Systems Technology (IST) department is seeking a highly motivated Senior Technology Engineer to lead and support network, security, project management, telecommunications and enterprise network operations at the Law Center campus.

They serve as the technology expert with responsibility for leading technical initiatives in a fast-paced service-oriented environment that focuses on continual improvement for the institution.

As well, they work with University and Law Center network administrators, database administrators, security administrators, project managers, technical directors and application developers, as well as faculty, staff, students, project stakeholders and vendors.

Work Interactions

Reporting to the Senior Director of Technology Operations, Client Services and GOCard Operations, the Senior Technology Engineer interacts with all staff, faculty, students of Georgetown Law, UIS, Vendors and Integrators.

This is an emergency-designated position, given its key role in the support of our academic mission, so the incumbent must be available during after-hours.

Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or MIS - preference for a Master’s in a computing field
At least 4 years of data and voice network experience sufficient to demonstrate competency and capability with traditional PBX operations, VoIP, phones, SIP, L2/L3 network switches, routers, wireless access points, cabling infrastructure and standards, to include copper, coax, and fiber, wireless technologies
Established project management skills and experience with the OSI model
Knowledgeable in enterprise-wide network applications, network infrastructure, network security, integration, and network architecture
Understanding of the interactions between applications, operating systems, system hardware, network services, and storage devices
Strong ability to work in a team with an excellent customer service attitude and good verbal and written communication skills
Excellent oral and written communication skills as demonstrated by the ability to translate complex and technical concepts into readily-understood language for end users, project managers, business analysts, management, and other stakeholders
Experience working in a higher education environment and understanding of its structure and dynamics
Experience managing large projects (both from a technical and functional aspect)
Strong skills in consulting, communication, problem-solving, needs analysis, and data analysis
Superior interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Familiarity with Single Sign-on (SSO) through Shibboleth

At least 4 years of experience with cloud-based enterprise systems
At least 4 years of experience with Cisco network equipment, Meraki and Cisco telephony
