We are looking for a Public Health Apprentice. This is a three-year 3 month fixed term contract in the public team with paid time off to remotely study for a BSc(Hons) degree in Public Health from the University of West England (Bristol). Public Health Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship - Current higher and degree apprenticeships | UWE Bristol). You need to meet the entry criteria for application to the University which includes GCSE Mathematics and English at level 4 or above, or equivalent.

In your time with us you will complete a number of placements with the different sub-teams in order to experience the breadth of public health practice. You will combine work-based learning and study for a public health degree that is funded as part of your apprenticeship in addition to a salary. Upon completion you will also have met the requirements to apply for the professional UK Public Health Registration (UKPHR) as a Public Health Practitioner.

So that you can study we will make sure that you have 6 hours of protected time for learning within your working week.
We will provide you with a public health mentor to support you in developing your public health career, progressing on your degree course and completing the portfolio to qualify as a Public Health Practitioner. You will be supported by the regional network of Public Health apprentices and the council-wide network of apprentices. You will also be supported by a line manager, who will help you settle into the Council and look after you as an employee.

For those not able to work full time, we would ask for a minimum commitment of 30 hours per week. Flexible working hours are available.

Job Purpose
⦁ To support the lawyers in the provision of legal advice to the Councils, Members and Officers, and support the provision of legal solutions in relevant areas of legal work to enable the Councils to progress with corporate goals.

1. Based at Merville Barracks we are recruiting for a Senior Security Administrator to run the day to day control of security services, CCTV operations, central pass office and associated vetting compliance.
This is a busy and varied role where you will be working under the Soft Services Operations Manager and be overseeing the CCTV operation, administration of the security pass and car pass system and support the team.
You will have proven experience within security and administration and some management experience. You will have a valid SIA licence and be willing to work unsociable hours.
You will be keen, enthusiastic and willing to learn and be IT literate, have good organisation, communication and customer service skills and high attention to detail.
If successful you will undergo security clearance and therefore would need to have a valid British passport and have lived in the UK for over 5 years.

Role: Prison Security Escort

Location: HMP Chelmsford

Standard Rate: £12.09 per hour + 33 days holiday pay

Overtime rate: £18.15ph (overtime after 37.5 hours)

Duration: Temporary with the potential to be long term

Typical hours: Monday to Friday: 08:00-17:00

As a Prison Security Escort, you will work alongside the prison service, supporting our client who is responsible for the maintenance of the buildings. You will be a part of security team where you will escort and oversee contractors such as carpenters, plumbers and electricians, whilst they complete their maintenance work.

Duties of a Prison Security Escort Include (but not limited to)

• Checking the identification of the contractors
• Booking in and out of the contractors
• Escorting contractors through the prison to their place of work
• Overseeing contractors whilst they are working
• Checking contractor tools are all accounted for prior to leaving work area
• Using the radio to request permission to move contractors within the prison
• Checking contractors have been briefed on security measures

About You:

• You will have good communication skills
• Have excellent attention to detail
• Be safety conscious
• Have been living in the UK for the past 3+ years
• Be able to pass security vetting (includes providing references, passing security police checks & providing photo identification)

The Role

Job Purpose

As a qualified employment lawyer you will join a team that prides itself on the provision of high quality advice, information, analysis and interpretation to clients that underpin effective decision making, meaningful performance management and meets statutory requirements.

Achieving good client service and making a real and demonstrable difference to the delivery of ELS' business and the business of our clients is core to our ethos.

You will be involved in potentially high profile and ground-breaking employment matters and will advise clients on all aspects of employment law issues in demanding circumstances which will at times have far reaching consequences.

The successful applicant will be a qualified solicitor or barrister, ideally with a minimum of 2 years' post-qualification (although qualified solicitors or barristers with less than 2 years' post qualification will also be considered) and a member of the appropriate professional body. The post holder must have significant commercial awareness to contribute to the development of new external streams of business and the ability to build excellent working relationships. This role is working within the Dispute Resolution and Employment Law Team.

Service/Functional Accountabilities

As part of the Essex Legal Services' Dispute Resolution and Employment Law team, the post-holder will be responsible and accountable for:

• Providing timely and accurate legal advice across the Council and to external clients, including constructively challenging and exploring alternative options where appropriate to produce the best possible outcomes.
• Delivering outcomes against the business plan for legal services, which supports and drives the Council's wider Organisation Strategy and vision.
• Acting as a legal practitioner and advocate providing specialist advice, professional consultation and support to colleagues (where appropriate) within your team.
• Understanding client needs and providing them with a service they value; driving the delivery of productivity and efficiency improvement.
• Maintaining and actively progressing a full and varied caseload.
• Supporting the development of current and future business opportunities, to promote the Essex Legal Services' vision to the external market.
• Building strong working relationships across the team, the Council, schools, other local authorities and the private sector to ensure a quality advice service is provided to the customer.
• Understanding and performing delegated functions as detailed in the Council's constitution (and as amended from time to time).
• Specific individual and shared targets and objectives that are defined annually within the performance management framework.

The Experience You Will Bring

• Qualified solicitor/barrister with current membership of the Law Society or Bar Standards Board.
• Evidence of continuing professional development, 2 years post-qualified experience and expert knowledge in relevant professional area (although lawyers with less post-qualified experience will be considered).
• Experience of working within a legal setting in a politically sensitive environment, providing high-quality advice to a wide range of clients.
• Experience of a full range of employment law matters including but not limited to dealing with employment tribunals, unfair dismissal claims, discrimination matters, disciplinary and grievances, capability issues and TUPE.
• Commercial awareness with sufficient professional credibility to maintain the existing client base.
• Ability to work and think independently while maintaining focus on delivering team and corporate objectives.
• Proven track record of building strong working relationships across a large, complex organisation and with internal and external partners/stakeholders and clients.
• Ability to provide clear and succinct advice on complex matters to both to both the client base and junior colleagues.
• A strong focus on outcomes to achieve strategic objectives.
