The Opportunity…
At Hinkley Point C (HPC) we are building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK providing low carbon electricity for around six million homes.
We are looking for two Senior Project Manager (SPM) roles across the I&C programme all based at Hinkley Point C (Somerset):-
- SPM (installation) – leading on the oversight of the on-site installation and pre-commissioning of I&C cabinets, and develop strong collaboration with area management, MEH and commissioning.
- SPM (V3 delivery) – leading on-site I&C modification and configuration teams, and building the agile UK capability in terms of people, plant and process in support of the commissioning schedule.
All three posts will be responsible for on-site leadership, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, time, and cost parameters to fulfil project requirements.

What you’ll be doing…
These are dynamic roles, you will be tasked with shaping the work scope for your contract or project package, carefully defining interfaces with other elements of the program. You will be securing the necessary resources to bring your vision to life, ensuring the skill, quality, and prompt identification of any personnel issues. Get ready to craft and execute powerful execution strategies and plans, perfectly aligned with the overarching programme objectives, setting the stage for a seamless and successful program delivery journey. Other roles and responsibilities also include:
- Defining work scope and interfaces within the contract or package, ensuring alignment with program objectives.
- Proactively anticipate, manage, and resolve issues within the contract or package, identifying risks and facilitating their resolution. Keep a keen eye on the programme budget, updating as needed, and escalate any significant issues as they arise.
- Securing necessary resources, maintaining SQEP standards, and promptly addressing personnel issues.
- Developing effective execution strategies and plans, outlining management, organisation, and of site installation activities.
- Driving delivery of activities, ensuring safety, timeliness, budget adherence, and meeting business and technical requirements.
- Maintaining level 4 schedules, ensuring consistency with overall project schedules, and escalating discrepancies.
- Embrace the principles of Continuous Improvement, driving ongoing enhancements to project processes and outcomes. Facilitate the capture and dissemination of lessons learned and knowledge gained as standard practice.
- Ensuring timely delivery of List of Deliverables (LOD) and applying Earned Value Management (EVM) principles, reporting EV progress to Senior Management monthly.
- Reviewing Contractor's payment applications, applying Continuous Improvement principles, and practicing lessons-learned and knowledge-capture as standard.
- Interfacing with other programs for project progress overview and adoption of best practices.
- Fulfilling of contractual requirements for the contract or package.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all project team members and stakeholders within the contract or package of work.
Who you are…
Your background may include some of the following:
- Proven track record of successfully delivering projects within technically complex and dynamic environments, ensuring safety, security, and environmental responsibility, ideally in the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated fields.
- Demonstrable experience in managing and developing engineering design, contract and field execution strategies, multi-discipline EPCM projects, procurement, and complex contract management.
- Proficient in controlling costs, risks, schedules, changes, and using Earned Value tools.
- Experience in effectively engaging diverse stakeholder groups, particularly within matrix structures.
- Strong management skills encompassing project management, financial management, change management, and facilitation, with proficiency in estimating, scheduling, programming, and risk management tools.
- Experience in managing contractors, consultants, and advisors throughout large and complex construction projects in regulated environments, including familiarity with NEC and FIDIC contracts.
- Understanding of EPR design and familiarity with CDM Regulations, as well as knowledge and/or practice in project management methodologies such as APM Body of Knowledge and OGC's Prince 2.
- Ability to manage projects through the entire project lifecycle from concept to handover, understanding the needs of nuclear quality requirements and applying a graded approach to quality assurance and control.
