About us
This is a fantastic time to join team Salford. The city is being transformed through unprecedented levels of development and investment and this growth trajectory is set to continue. Positive change can be seen on the ground across new City Centre neighbourhoods including Chapel Street, Greengate, Middlewood Locks and New Bailey, the landmark MediaCity development at Salford Quays (which is set to double in size), the UK’s first tri-modal port at Port Salford and the Royal Horticultural Society’s 5th garden RHS Garden Bridgewater. However, this is very much a job just started in delivering the next waves of sustainable and inclusive growth across our strategic growth locations, with the city on track to deliver circa 40,000 new homes and circa 40,000 new jobs by 2040. You can read more about why Salford is a city to watch.
At the heart of our plans for development is our vision to create a fairer and more inclusive local economy that delivers greater social and environmental justice, where wealth is shared more widely across all our communities.
It is within this context that we are now seeking to grow our Investment and Programmes team; the strategic growth section for the Place directorate, delivering cross-cutting programmes, driving economic policy and investment into the city alongside a crucial business and performance management function on behalf of the Place Senior Leadership Team.
We are seeking a new team member to bring experience of grant funding and programme management, fresh ideas and new perspectives to Salford and make a direct, visible, positive contribution to key council programmes, particularly in relation to Skills, Work and Inclusive Economy.
About the Role
The project manager role provides a unique opportunity to work with multiple teams across the council and with city partners to manage key projects and programmes across the Investment & Programmes portfolio, particularly in relation to our inclusive growth agenda which includes Salford’s programme and response to UK Shared Prosperity Funding and Employment & Skills related programmes initially, which are crucial in creating impact and outcomes for our residents and communities. We are currently delivering a programme which supports a range of projects and improvements in the city, having received around £4m of funding across Communities & Place, Local Business and People & Skills.
This role will support a large-scale, grant-funded programme until its completion, ensuring we comply with our grant-funding requirements and collaborate with partner organisations delivering associated projects in our communities. The role will also support delivery of our Employment & Skills strategy, working with specialists to manage a delivery plan and have connectivity to our Skills and Work team. The wider Investment & Programmes team cover a wide range of programmes, projects and investment propositions that you will be able to get involved in and develop skills, knowledge and experience.
About you
The ideal candidate would be a project professional with experience in delivering grant funding programmes with community outcomes, managing both the expenditure and output and outcome delivery with internal and external project leads alongside managing the returns process to the funder, as this would be an initial focus for this role, alongside contributing to other key council projects and programmes.
We welcome applicants with project management knowledge and experience who have a passion for regeneration and delivering impact through funding programmes. More important is to be a solution seeker with excellent communication skills who has the flexibility and drive to achieve key project milestones. A great collaborator and people-person, you will be assured in taking personal responsibility for activities.
If you would like an informal discussion about this role, please do not hesitate to contact Nina Howells (Commercial Project Manager, Investment & Programmes team) via email at nina.howells@salford.gov.uk to arrange a call.
